From this book "A game of two Halves, Brian!" By Fritz Spiegl. "You will find a number of biblical references apparently relating to the game. Even one about the great goalkeeper Elisha Scott, of whom II Kings says, "Elisha said, 'Shoot': and he shot." The referee is clearly meant in Revelation - "And he had in his hand a little book"- and is further told, "What thou seest write in a book." The defensive wall is there in Nahum 2 "They shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared." There is even a refernce to a Scottish team in Luke 11 verse 31: "The Queen of the South shall rise up" Every time the T.V. cameras light on a player, he seems to feel the need to spit, or clear his nose through his fingers, which must make the field a pretty unsavoury place. No wonder the Bible contains the warning, "He that toucheth the pitch shall be defiled by it." (Fritz Spiegl 1996) I won't have to do penances, will I, TBH?!!!!

Those sides are unfairly balanced out – even with the pace of the little guy, they’re going to get hammered.

I think Fritz Spiegl is quoting from the old King James version, isn't he? It misses out the word "city" and says, " (verse 5) ..."they shall make haste to the wall thereof and the defence shall be prepared." So it sounds more like "the defensive wall." (I think they were playing Ninevah United!!! ) Fritz Spiegl is (was?) a bit of a scholar went to a posh school where they played "Rugger"- but later,he became a Football fan- sensible man!!! The whole book is SO funny, I've hardly been able to put it down all day.
