My little grandson, Alexander wears specs.
(Red hair and specs- but he's got loads of self-confidence!!!)
He now stays after school for Football practice.
I wonder how he'll get on if he was ever picked for his school team?
I know some of you wear glasses and play football- what do you do? Do you have contact lenses for games or what? (I obviously haven't yet watched you play!)

As a matter of interest, have there EVER been any professional players with short sight!!! (I'm tempting fate, aren't I? ![;)](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/winking/winking0070.gif) I just KNOW what some of you are going to say- or who you'll name- and obviously ones who may not wear glasses, but seem to need them!!!)

I was just going to mention Edgar Davids until I saw Geoff's pic, I think an infection stopped him wearing contacts or something like that, I think a pair like his may be a little expensive tho ![;)](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/winking/winking0070.gif) It was rumoured that Benny Gall never wore his contacts during games for one reason or another, hence why he never went for the ball until it got really close to him ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/1258782/images/pqnQOqOSibedLgQPAcub.png)

i've worn glasses since i was eight and played football since is about 3.... <cue leahy>
depends on how high you want him to play really and how high he wants to play.
you can play without but that depends on how short sighted he is, but after that ok to play in glasses. i've got contact lense now to play in as it's a lot more comfortable and you don't have to worry as much about being t**ted in the facce...
those edgar david's glasses only work if you've got slight short sightedness, i tried them and it was like looking a fisheye lense!

Wish I'd seen you play wearing those I am in tears of laughter just thinking about Ian "The Fly" Whitfield ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/1258782/images/pqnQOqOSibedLgQPAcub.png)

Sister Pab has already given the perfect reply ;D But you can tell Alexander that Jeff Jurion was captain of Belgium and wore glasses in Internationals - I think he played 30/40 years ago. I wore glasses to play in from about the age of 12 to 15 when I got contact lenses, I even played rugby in specs ![:o](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0015.gif) Best to get advise from an optician because soft frame material and unbreakable lenses will be required. As Whitters says, it's no fun being hit in the face by the ball and having steel frames smashed into your eyebrows.

Although I wear specs I don't need 'em. When I told the Ghost O'conner was coming on, when in fact it was Darby, that was due to the low angle of the sun ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) In truth I rank somewhere between Stevie Wonder and Arsne Wenger ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I played in specs when I was young and changed to contacts when I was about 17. It made all the difference to me especially as I played in goal. All the diving about and getting kicked in the head meant a lot of trips to the optician. If the little lad wants to play then, as Davefromalty suggests saftey is the most important thing, get tough memory metal frames and plastic lenses. Also tie some ribbon or lace or elastic to the end of the arms so that they will stay on when the head is jarred.
Don't let him be put off! Nobby Stiles won a World Cup medal and he is as blind as a bat!!!!!
