So the figures are out on the worlds richest clubs and there total incomes – frankly some of the figures are staggering but it tells a tale on a footballing side. Liverpools form in the last year or 2 has seen them lose ground on the rest of Europe again and now there on about par with Newcastle!! Amazing to see Villa as the 20th rich club in Europe for a club that done nothing in god knows how many years. Was it not marseills that were relegated some years back by the French FA due to some money problems – they have bounced back well if it is!! And who said signing becks/owen (Graverson ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/1258782/images/pqnQOqOSibedLgQPAcub.png) ) and other galicticos was not good for Reals books – there are rapidly closing back in on Unt as the number one team in the world!!! And just think – that .5 at the end of united figure would keep us going for about 5 years!!! 1 (1) Man Utd £171.5m 2 (4) Real Madrid £156.3m 3 (3) AC Milan £147.2m 4 (10) Chelsea £143.7m 5 (2) Juventus £142.4m 6 (7) Arsenal £115m 7 (13) Barcelona £110.1m 8 (6) Inter Milan £110.3m 9 (5) Bayern Munich £110.1m 10 (8) Liverpool £92.3m 11 (10) Newcastle £90.5m 12 (11) Roma £72m 13 (18) Celtic £69m 14 (16) Tottenham £66.3m 15 (15) Lazio £65.8m 16 (-) Man City £61.9m 17 (14) Schalke £60.5m 18 (-) Marseille £58.3m 19 (-) Rangers £57.1m 20 (-) Aston Villa £55.9m

Do they publish anywhere how much these clubs are in profit/loss? I bet there are some big black holes being dug by several of the clubs in that list.

I was under the impression that Man City are in heavy debt, although I'm more than likely mis-interpreting what these figures represent...

yeh its revenue not profit. so clubs on the list are not necessarily doing well.
The fact Man City are on the list with a revenue of £61.9m but are millions in debt is mad.
Has anyone seen the story on bbc sport about borussia dortmund being on the verge of bankruptcy - despite having a regular home attendence of 75,000! How is possible to make such a financial mess!?

50 million debt isn't too much in this day and age. Shaun Wright Phillips, David James, Robbie Fowler etc...all players who can be sold off if needed.

Bloody Hell Apparently most of German Footy is a mess on and off the field last i read ![???](//storage.proboards.com/1258782/images/ZEjvtQKOmLArVPumuTsh.png) And the case of match fixing in the Top league which a ref has admitted and look likely to take more down with him has destroyed public confidence in the game there!!! That said they have the world cup to host so that should get them back to where they were

That's only about £12 million worth Craig, with Shaun being worth 95% of it. So nobody would pay more than a mill for David James? Coventry were 60 million in debt 3/4 years ago and got by. If a club that averages 15,000 supporters can do it then one which averages 45,000 certainly can. And the main reason why City are heading towards Division 1 at the moment is because they flogged Highfield Raod for peanuts and have built a rediculously large and expensive new stadium in it's place.

What's on his contract? I'd doubt he'd be worth more than 1.5million?

A resident City fan here assures that his club won't be dragged down by the debts they have. They don't own the City of Manchester stadium but their debts are structured against season ticket sales over the next 20 years or so. As long as they sell 15,000 each season then they'll be Ok ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) And there are more than 15,000 hardy souls that follow the light blues.

Deloitte's Annual Review of Football Finance, published in August 2004, estimates that the net debt of Premiership clubs was £704 million. I believe that Chelsea are technically in debt to the tune of £80 million. Imagine what would happen there if Mr Abramovich did a runner? As far as Man City go, the link makes interesting reading www.squarefootball.net/content/article/article.asp?aid=1482

Precisely, the only way Fulham can get their accounts accepted is for Al Fayed to undertake to support them for another 12-18 month period, otherwise they could not operate.

The list is really a bit of a misnomer as it should really be called the income list not the rich list. English clubs do well as they have 3 income streams from tv,gates and merchandising. Man united would probably be about the only club turning a substanial profit if the t.v money was taken away

Premiership clubs bring in so much money because they charge scandalously high ticket prices, have loyal fans who will cough up regardless, are very good at merchandising and get mega bucks from TV. That cash flow is what makes them attractive to people like Malcolm Glazer.
Most of the cash goes in wages, 89% quoted in Villa's case!. So, if you were a businessman wanting to make a profit from a club, where would you cut costs?
