That's very true, I was also suprised with the offer they were making considering they are in so much financial trouble. However this is another example of planning for the future and keeping the fans happy. More initatives like this down the meadow would definately be welcomed and would hopefully create more young fans for the years ahead.

Yes, and even in their position can still see the potential in this! Drop the apostrophe when you do it though please!!

We on the other hand dont owe 750K, so such a gesture is likely to be all positive.
Peters wants the ground full and the atmos increased a bit. So here is a way to try and make it happen..
Or, do they only want to attract new, young supporters if they are going to swell the coffers a bit. Very short sighted.

Incidently the Grimsby attendance yesterday was about 200 down on their average for the season wonder how many of those who turned up took advantage of the scheme and thus lost Grimsby more money

Grimsby have had a couple of very large attendances this season which mean the average attendance isn't the best indicator of what they expected yesterday. Games against similar teams have attracted 4,000 ish so I think the initiative helped boost the attendance by around 700.

aren't they owing the ir £750k and have to pay pretty soon or else they'll get liquadated? i don't see the logic in this mine of argument are you saying they will be liquidated because they allowed some kids in free? or was it several years of poor management, a couple of relegations, over reliance on ITV digital money and the fact they are a small provincial club? 5 years ago we would have had Grimsby up there as another clubw e wanted to emulate it has nothing to do with kids discounts.

Shrewsbury are probably one of the lessor draws in this division. I'm guessing that Grimsby chose this game as a Kids go Free game because they figurered that without it the attendance would be very low. Basically it was an attempt to get adults to come to a game they probably wouldn't have gone to.
The added (and secondary) benefit is that Kids might get hooked.
Shrewsbury can be creative in offering promotions, Kids for a Quid; 2 Kids for the Price of One; Every paying kid gets a free scarf; and I'm sure many others could be thought off by the ticketing and marketing groups.

i don't see the logic in this mine of argument it wasn't an argument just an observation.. maybe you should look back and see if it's a regular occurance at blundell park or just a reaction to their situation.

Even if it was a one off, would be nice to see something similar at GM for a home game

Reading offered a kids for a quid promotion at the Wigan game.
Not a bottom of the table, poor attraction game, but a generous gesture.
There 10 tickets for £100 at Christmas was also pretty nice too, aimed at promoting a family group trip.

Incidently the Grimsby attendance yesterday was about 200 down on their average for the season wonder how many of those who turned up took advantage of the scheme and thus lost Grimsby more money i think that is how the club would see it. It would cost. It is whether the short term loss proves to be long term gain. Question : Has anyone done any research into whether kid for a quid schemes actually work. Ie do kids who go to these games become fans?

Well, you know if kids don't go to games they will not become fans.
How many people on here have written that they were hooked on STFC after being taken to games by an older relative?
No brainer, really.

just cos the kids are getting in free doesn't mean they not getting extra money anyway, money is probably being made because perhaps the adult is coming to a game that they wouldn't normally come to and theres probably a boost in programme sales and food sales
