We've done all the other big topics on here recently so here is a thread to sort out the Big Brother obeying authoritarians from those who enjoy their individual liberty. Possibly a big election issue. In the absence of a patriotic candidate I might even vote Lib Dem such is my feeling against them. Then again, the whole scheme is so unworkable that the buggers'll never be introduced and I'll be better showing what I think of the establishment by not voting. So, who wants 'em and who doesn't?

I hate them, the whole idea makes me sick, and the way they've used peoples fears (terrorism) to get more control over the people.....and i really didnt think the world would become like this, but it has i see no reason for them other than to create a sense of fear.
i really cant stand the people who say "if you have nothing to hide" its not the point and they know it
fagin, i didnt see ure post when i posted this i swear, im not having a go at you...i wouldnt mind an Id card if it definetly didnt have all your information on...proof of age, but its the way we have been scared in needing them.........the terrorists on 9/11 used their own identity anyway............and i cant afford eighty quid

Dont see the problem with conversing with him , his racist posts are deleated, and if people occassionally calmed down they'd see that he does ocassionally make interesting points.
ID cards???
as bennlenn says terrorism is achieving its aims, because as a result of the threat of terrorism our civil liberties are slowly being eroded....
ID card just another example.... what next, are they going to tack us up on shelves? Maybe put insert us with mind controling chips (controlled of course by the government)...
ID cards solve nothing, just an expensive waste and continuation of scaremongering

If the government want produce these cards and send me one I'll put it in my wallet with all the other ID I currently have.
Overall I think it is a good idea as some people have no official form of ID - i.e. no drivers licence or passport.

4 Fed up of having loads of cards that bulk up my wallet. Funding and cost is the real issue here, not some big brother thing. U would be scared of what info they have already.

So I am expected to exchange the possibility of my identity being stolen by criminal gangs for the certainty of it being owned by the government, and pay for the questionable privelege?
I don't think so.

As to 1990 I supported Argentina (as I did in 86 after they knocked us out). Maradona was the greatest footballer ever. Took a mediocre team to two World Cup finals.

ID cards are a waste of time and money. University top up fees a diabolical liberty - could be the first time I've not voted for Labour though I would like to be able to.

Here's the website for questions you may have about identity cards - expected to start being issued sometime in 2008 www.homeoffice.gov.uk/comrace/identitycards/faq.htmlI have no objections to the introduction of an ID card, providing that it won't be expensive - unfortunately it WILL be expensive
