Just had a look on the nike website...
"THE WRISTBAND EMPOWERS YOU, THE SILENT MAJORITY OF FANS, TO SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO RACISM, WITHOUT CONFRONTATION"
Interesting statement, surely if enough people turned round and told the racists where to go (as we do) it wouldnt be such a problem.
Failing that, avoid a confrontation and tell a steward...
Its exactly because the silent majority do naff all (eventually turn round and say stop that) that racism is such a problem, on the continent and to a lesser extent here.
Dont see how aband makes a difference, do we go up to a racist and show them the band and hope it will have the same effect as when a wicar shows his dog collar?
Having said that I've just noticed it says
that all money raised will be distributed to various organisations, and that a maximum of 25% will be go to cover the cost of the band.
I hope none of it goes to the various football associations as they already recieve funding and in the case of spain, italy and other nations dont really give a s**te about the problem
It also states that nike asks you to make a minimum DONATION of £1.50...
Just a shame, that they didnt create millions of them so as to avoid the black market problems.
Even if they make little or nothing, tis very very very good publicity for the company, almost as good publicity as bussing thousands of kids in for a match...
P.S-they've also got a banner up saying "make yourself heard"
shouldnt that be seen, after all they are the silent majority, there is nothing to hear
