Why did Bob Geldof get an outstanding contribution to music award at the brits?
All he has ever done musically are a couple of second rate post punk hits at the end of the seventies.
He hasn't inspired others to make music.
He doesn't make music.
He may be a great campaigner, and a spokesman for a generation, even an Honourary knight. But musically, he is nobody.
Has Midge Ure ever won this award?

well he commands the respect of the music press and his fellow musicians.
So he's obviously doing something right...

I did wonder exactly the same thing myself. Compare Geldof to his peers from that generation who are still turning out good music and the award makes little or no sense.
But then the Brits make little or no sense and are very little to do with music but a lot to do with PR and advertising
