note the way the players behaved when the ref sin binned to of them....
No chasing the ref around the pitch, no swearing at the ref, no team members charging in, they just shook their heads and walked off.
Also note the actions of the crowd, didnt appear to be any fighting....

I'm not a fan, I can bear watching some of the Internationals without ever really getting into them.
Proposed evolution of the beautiful game gone wrong in my opinion, and a game dominated mostly by the upper classes.

No.
I like both forms of Rugby.
Football could learn a lot from it at the moment. No diving and acting like you've just been shot. Acceptance of decisions by players. No injury feining, no trying to con the ref into giving decisions etc etc.
Football really p**ses me off at times with the play acting and blatant cheating. FIFA need to act and act now.

Gaelic football is a better game. Watching a game of rugby all the way through poses problems.

I'm presuming that you mean Rugby Union- as Rugby League is not a toff's game. The two Rugby League teams from around here, Wigan Warriors and St Helens, are supported by working class people in the main, though their supporters come from all walks of life. (as ours do, surely?!!) I can't say I can get into it, in spite of being surrounded by Rugby League fans, and working with them. There just doesn't seem to be as much skill in it as there is in Soccer. It seems daft- -picking up an egg-shaped ball and running with it, and big beefy men grappling in the mud- doesn't do anything for me!!! But some of my best friends are Rugby League supporters, so I'm not going to vote for banning it.

I've played football, rugby and gaelic football and the Irish game was the one I enjoyed playing the most. Rugby is OK to play, but is often baffling as a spectator sport and here in the North it's played by ranks of society. Jason Robinson is hardly a member of the aristocracy At least rugby gives a chance to 20 stone blokes who can't run a chance to participate in a team sport.

I assume you mean the two knuckle draggers that two seconds earlier had tried to remove each other heads by use of studded boots and fists. It was hardly a fist, thought it was quite harsh on the Welsh player by Rugby standards. The crime probably was running so far to do it.

In answer to the main, i'll watch any sport. Competition is a wonderful thing.
Personally prefer Union to League, not keen on continuous stops in League, more free flowing union i feel attracts.

I don't mind watching rugby, have played touch-rugby for a laugh but would never want to play the real game. The game seems to lack inspiration or individual skill IMO. The biggest thing that puts me off the sport is that the lads who play rugby at uni are all absolute t**ts (excuse my french), most of them are up their own arses, have been privately educated and seem to have no manners.

there is a great level of skill in rugby
drop kicking a goal from 25/30 yards in open play is just as impressive as Beckham smashinga free kick in from 25 yards.
Watch the backs, and the way they manouver the ball about, with dummy passes, the scissers, the good old grubber kick past an oponent etc...
Brian O'Driscal at his best is one of the most creative rugby players in the world.
As for the game, well a decent game of top class rugby can be just as entertaining as a top class game of football.

Try asking them what a penalty has been given for, if they can't hear the commentator No-one knows what is going on half the time.

My hatred of rugby stems from the absolute pricks who used to play it at university. I wished they would put their cocks away and just admit they were gay instead of sitting around naked in the bar drunk thinking they were dead funny. I wish I could have kicked all their ****ing stupid heads in, but unfortunately I was not strong enough.

I know this was a jokey thread, but underlying it is a common theme.... why is it that so many football fans seem to feel that football and rugby are so different and so totally separate that one person couldn't possibly enjoy or support both I do. What's the problem?

Unfortunately I was forced to play rugby at school. I did manage to score a 70 odd yard try once. I was being chased by a Wales under 16 defender and I have never ran as fast in my life.

Now now Vic, you're making an assumption, whereas Mr Staines was making an observation! I can also state that I saw StainesR after the playoff final, no burberry in sight, and definitely not the kind to indulge in Hooliness (Just as scrawny as he was at school, hehe) ;D

I wish I could have kicked all their ****ing stupid heads in, but unfortunately I was not strong enough. why is it socially unacceptable to be racist to 'nig nogs' and 'pakkis' but ok for YOU to give out gay jibes because you were obviously in a situation where you felt hormonially challeneged..?? You are the one who is not strong enough - may I suggest some kind of travel trip and life education to find yourself so you feel more comfortable in certain situations I dont like Rugby Union as it makes me fall asleep. I adore Rugby League on the otherhand as I connect to its speed and excitement. I love NFL as its like human chess with skill, but I dont like Basketball as it dont get it, dont understand it and simply dont have the interest to want to get to know it. ...But I know basketball players arent 8 foot poofs who in the past have probably got the girls when I was a spotted, jibbering unconfident person at uni and felt subconsciencesouly challenged therfore resorted to weak arguments to make me more manly by suggesting others are gay with their cocks out who i wanted to punch hard to combat the anger and frustration inside myself. DEAR TONY BLAIR _ bring back national service !!! HELP !

Overreaction or what
I think he was getting at the obvious homo-erotiscm involved in the rugby players social lives....He wasnt saying anything was wrong in being gay, yet was saying that they obviously can't admit that they are....and it was only a joke anyway....
