Southwest Air Lines is about the cheapest I found Whilst out there, very good coverage on the West Coast- but its still expensive!!! Air travel in the states is only cheap if you book in advance.
But have to say to expericence the true feel of the USA you must make a 15 hour Grayhound trip between somewhere like Washington and Atlanta!!! Its pretty cheap as well, and your almost certain to sit next to a nutter/Redneck the whole way - I did!!!
Or have you considered using Am Track although the routes are risticted - the sights are amazing - if corssing the states and you have time go New Orleans to LA on the train (2 and a half days) but it was the most amazing rail trip I have been on and even in the plebs carriage the travel is comfortable!!
Ahh makes me want to go back and do it all again!!

Have only been to Seattle and dont want to go to the East Coast as you can go there anytime.
Was thinking of flying to Atlanta then to New Orleans then Vegas then San Fran and then home.
Any info/recommendations greatly appreciated bearing in mind its a honeymoon.
Not 100% definite with other choices being S Africa, Costa Rica or Cuba

I would recommend you only pass through Atlanta (if you have to) Large metropolitan area with, to my mind, little to justify a stay.
I would, however, STRONGLY suggest a few days in Scottsdale (Phoenix). Top class place - still a bit of a 'cowboy' town. Superb resort style hotels and temperatures into 100's. Good for excursions to Tombstone and Grand Canyon + Vegas return flights, with 2 nights at MGM Grand, for £130 each.
Lots of open space, a nice contrast to the big cities on the rest of your itinary.
