So I mobilized quickly and rounded up a whole bunch of friends who were going to donate and made a single donation which was then doubled by the company. Excellent. Fair play to them, they did donate 10,000 quid too.

My first donation was on Saturday towards the building of the World Skydive Village that is being built through fundraising events run by the worlds skydiving community
Remember if anyone wants to do a tandem jump that the jump is free if you raise twice the cost of the jump (£400 ish) for any charity

Interesting to note that Tesco, who have collecting buckets at every checkout and who made £2 billion profit last year (mainly by screwing suppliers) avoid paying tax on mail order CD's and DVD's by routing orders through Jersey.
So, if you've bought the tsunami charity CD by mail order from Tesco they have avoided by the tax that the Chancellor promised to donate to relief funds.
Meanwhile, my employers (who I will not name as we are dependent on the likes of Tesco) have commited to sponsor an orphanage in Indonesia and clinics in Thailand - which is why we do not make the sort of profits supermarkets do .

Just going off the wall for a second.
Terrible thing that happened, truely a disaster.
I couldnt help thinking, and im sure someone will correct me, but lots of news reports said that there where huge delays getting aid into some of the areas affected because they where so remote.
Cant help thinking, that if goerge w had been holidaying in one of those areas, had the american fleet would have been anchored off shore in a matter of hours.
Anyho, as ive said before, refuse to give to charity. But on this occassion, i chucked a fiver into a bucket.

I made a donation at the bank, but I refuse to chuck money in a bucket, unless it is sealed.
Just want to make sure my money goes where it is intended. call me cynical, if you like, but its a sad reflection of the days we live in.

if you chuck it in a bucket there is no guarantee that it will be doanted using gift aid. If you donate personally, every quid you donate will become 1.28
seems small but it makes a difference.

From the BBC today.
The White House has confirmed it plans to ask Congress for an extra $80bn (£43bn), mainly to fund military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Priorities.
