Im not so sure he will do the business but the problem at City is not enough goals... That donkey Svensson may have to work a little harder or find himself another club now though IMO Norwich are a very good team and only seem to lack the quallity in the final third... if Ashton can sort out that problem I dont think they will have a problem staying up

Ashton does seem to be a very decent player, but is he worth £3 million? That's an awful lot of money and will do an awful lot of good for Crewe.

Just think, when Stitch was at Crewe and doing well there was talk of him going for £3m to Liverpool. We would of had 25%

and apparantly there was something happening with Sheff Wednesday, unfortunatly he then got injured, and injured and injured again... As for Ashton, you can't compare him to Hulse, Hules went for 750K i think, he is slower, less agile, hasn't got the "footballing brain" etc... As for Ashton, he's top notch, he may be unprovern, but 19 goals for a side (whom will probably struggle now) such as crewe is pretty impressive. He's not an "out and out" striker like Hulse was at Crewe, he has the capability to drop deep, play people through, shoot from distance, go wide and of course get the tap ins. A top notch player and still so young.

Love the pundits saying what a a 'gamble' it is, in a way they would never do if the guy was Portugese, Brazilian, Spanish, French etc...
The same pundits who bemoan the lack of young British talent arriving in the Premiership.

He picks up 10% of the transfer fees because that is the only way they were able to afford to keep him at the club. People may say its a conflict of interest and i suppose it is, however Dario has implemented one of the best youth schemes in the country at a club OUR size. His youth scheme has not only propelled crewe to the championship (from re-election in the fourth division as the oldies call it ), but helped fund the building of a new stand with facilities and the buiulding of a state of the art training complex used by the first team, reserves, kids, girls etc.... Platt, Jones, Murphy,Lennon,, seth Johnson,Savage, Craig Hignett, Dele Adebola,,Geoff Thomas, Dean Ashton etc... most of these players have played full International games and have all been brought on by Gradi and crewe. He deserves all the money he gets, look at the current Crewe first team squad, most (2/3)of the players are home grown/non league players
