given the last 2 excellent results what do people see as our strongest side given everyone is fit and available to play?

Its really difficult to say right now- no Moss, Walton, OConnor, Rodgers and Lowe today. The current side deserve to keep their places but I cant see these 5 players staying out for long, certainly Moss and Walton. Peters needs to work his magic with Luke- a few people have written him off far too early- he might still have a big part to play this season

Howie
Moss Whitehead Walton Ashton
Aiston Tolley O'Connor Edwards
Rodgers Langmead
If those two can click up front, it could be the best partnership in this league.

Some may say that the strongest side is the one doing the business on the field.

I'm not to sure about Luke & Kelvin as a front two,GP has tried it and it didn't work,I don't think our style of play at the moment suits Lukes game. We are more about playing it up to the front two with their backs to goal ,allowing them to play it back to the forward moving midfield players Luke thrives on the ball being played in front of him and outrunning defenders and I believe we are a stronger unit with Grant and Langmead

All our last seven goals have been scored when Luke wasn't on the pitch.
That's not to be critical - it's a statement of fact.

Well, you can't blame him for that. Newcastle's last 10 or so have been scored without Shearer on the pitch. Luke is still our best player, in my view.

Strongest side is the one that is winning. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Cliches, but true.
What hartens me is that we have a bit of depth now. Riddler is an admirable replacement for walton, ashton for moss. Ben Smith will be interesting when fit.
I dont think lowe is good enough.
Still want Rodgers to be our hero, but he should have to fight his way into the first team. Would be very dissappointed if Grant got dropped just cos luke was available.

HOME howie, whitehead walton tinson ashton edwards Rogers Aiston Tolley Grant Langmead
Away Howie Whithead Walton Tinson Ashton Edwards Aiston O Conner Tolley Grant Langmead
Moss to be left out, Nobody has a automatic place in the side so he will have to wait until others get injured. Rogers i would play at home in Midfield just behind the front two. I would keep Grant in, very well respected amongst the team for his work rate. Away i would bring in O'conner for a holding role & let Tolley get more forward. Good bench as well Moss Lowe Sedgmore Hart Ridler/ oconner/ rogers

Amazing that we're now talking about trying to find our strongest team from 16/17! A couple of weeks ago we were saying only 4 or 5 were good enough. Just shows the effect GP has had

agree with dachs to a certain extent.
However I'd still argue that for picking a pass out Ryan Lowe is the man. Lets not forget that prior to his injury against Mansfield the the previous 3 or so games he looked like our most likely player to create a goal for Langmead/a.n. other

My strongest team is the one that played yesterday, with the possibility of Walton back for Ridler, O'Connor in for Sedgemore. I would only make these changes as a necessity, ie suspension or injury.
No room for Rogers in the current system. The ball is being played in to feet to be held up bringing runners into the game.
It's also been very noticeable over the last 18 months that Luke ha s been unable to form an effective partnership with those tried with him, Cramb, Darby and for 2 games Langmead. I said many times last season and this, Luke cannot play with a target man style of striker, he just does not get close enough to them is totally unable to read or react to flick-ons.
That is meant as constructive criticism, something for him to work on.

The thing that has been noticeable to me is the fact that the defence hasn't been under as much pressure since Luke hasn't played. Reason being that we are not throwing long balls up for him to chase only for it to come straight back at us. With Langmead and Grant playing so well at holding the ball up,even if things do break down the defence has had that time to re-organise. We look a far more organised unit with the starting 11 that have been used in the last 2 games, and at last they look like TEAM players, not seeking personal glory.

Gp has shown the ability to get players to play the way he wants them to, I'm sure he can find a way to get Luke playing for the team as well.

We may be missing the point in this thread - its a 46 plus game season and the current successful team is our strongest one. But to achieve long term success requires a decent squad where each player play his part... Luke should not only be considered for an outright striking role ... he can (and maybe should) play as a right winger as we now have 2 forwards who could benefit from his service. The non league England coach saw it as a position he could occupy why not GP ...?
