Article on the BBC about American investors in English football. Am I the only one who dreads the thought of where this is going? I realise this might well be our future and although I accept it is a route we have to go down, it's not something I look forward to. www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cgj7pv6qg12o

Gone are the days of Bob Lord at Burnley . They are now part owned by an American concern who bought an 84% stake for £170m . Leeds United are now American owned . I seems clubs in Premier / Championship are mainly American or Saudi owned . As you say I agree that it looks like the way forward . I wonder who our new owners will turn out to be ? Knowing our luck it will be Dinkys Diner .😂👍

Not a fan of our American friends at the best of times.
But when it comes to footy I shake with fear, if they refer to our game as soccer I believe they should be instantly deported.
Saying that if one wants to heavily invest in us I may be persuaded to alter judgement.
Beggars can't be choosers.
Quid for a cup of tea guv' ?

It’s not referring to our game as soccer that annoys me, it’s when people call it “ footy “ that really gets to me. I have noted that one or two on here have , for some unknown reason, used that description . I’ll say no more but just let me say I have been incredibly surprised at the culprits involved. You know who you are , hang your heads in shame 😳😂😂

FYI
The term originated in the mid to late 19th century as a shortening of "association" by public schoolboys. The term was often written as "assoc" or "soc", and then "-er" was added to make it more slangy. So soccer isn’t the correct term

I think there's an assumption of some fans that American or any foreign owners are going to be bad news, conveniently forgetting that there's a long list of dodgy British owners (as well as successful foreign owners).
And lets not forget that when Roland saved us, the club was facing liquidation when being run by a local bloke and lifelong town fan (Ray Bailey), the sort of credentials that many of our fans consider to be more reliable and would want to take over when Roland does sell up

All future owners have to pass the "fit and proper" test first,or hasn't it got much 'clout' I don't know..... someone enlighten me please👍 www.efl.com/documents/efl-handbook.pdfAppendix 6 - Pages 228 to 241 of the PDF, 414 to 427 of the document as not all pages are there. Covers most things, doing illegal things abroad, being involved in insolvency etc etc etc, penalties are strong and there is an annual update process. So if it is passed, then it should all be well, EFL will have checked it thorougly.

I realise this might well be our future and although I accept it is a route we have to go down, it's not something I look forward to. www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cgj7pv6qg12oI think it's already our present, but we're still in the early stages. I read a while back that American sports investors believe that, comparing English football with American sports, our game hasn't been monetised to anything like the same extent. And when they talk about monetising English football, I think they're talking about most of that money coming from overseas. That's why the Americans are here in such numbers, and why they're still coming. To quote the predatory Mr Sommerfield in the article: "If they can bring that entertainment product here, and they have the know-how to commercialise and monetise sports assets, it will be fascinating." Never mind the sport, it's all about product. "It's quite sexy and it's very easy to promote." [Obviously never been to Burslem.] Whether this is welcome is up to the individual to decide for themselves, but it's happening anyway.
