you went to in the Conference season? Mine was Burton Albion on a Tuesday night. I think we'd been at home to Margate on the Saturday, and when we were winning Juan Nil for a fust win, up popped Warren Padmore with an equaliser in injury time. Any road up, I seem to remember us taking 1,100 over there. There were only two turnstyles, Juan for adults and another for OAP's/Juniors. They had to keep both open for every Juan or we wouldn't have got in. They had chips at the buffet cooked properly and could only do enough for about 4 people at the same time. The staff looked like rabbits caught in headlights! I think we finished as victors, 1 - 0, but don't ask me who scored for us. I believe Burton missed a penalty. (Eat your heart out, Salop Ian), what a brilliant match report. Do you remember your fust game?

Remember it like it was yesterday Jaytee. Seem to recall that we entered through a turnstile that was in a public park! The Burton officials appeared to have been completely caught out by the sheer numbers of Salop fans. My sons and I went to a fair number of away games that season for the sheer novelty of visiting non-league grounds. We always took good numbers. Oh..worst experience that season..Chester..say no more๐ก

I went to every game home and away that season , some fantastic away days Was Burton the first ? , I remember it was at their old ground , night game , don't remember too much but we packed the away end , I'm sure they missed a penalty and we went on to win 1-0
Was Accrington the same week ? That was a super hot day and another narrow 1-0 win for us
The only not so great away days that season were when we encountered recently relegated league sides , not only did we lose most of them they were always a reminder that at any point they could be spoilt by over zealous old bill and stewards

Somehow I'd forgotten about Burtons old ground ๐ Yep Burton was away midweek with Accrington Stanley away on Saturday.Another great turn out,I think a lot wanted to go because it was the legendary Accrington Stanley. Dun Flapping getting injured and our first sight of Scott Howie... straight away you could see he was the better keeper Totally memorable season, one of the best๐

If he wasn't he should have been, it was a definate goal if he hadnt punched it out. First of several lucky let offs that gained us points that season.

Manchester City, Maine Road, March 1983. Lost 1-0 and I think they scored right at the death. We played well and should have won! Loved the away end as you stood on one side of the Kippax! One of the few grounds I went to at the time that didnโt have the away end behind the goal! I also remember the programme being a really weird shape as it was wider than its height!

Had to check cos although I can remember going wouldnโt have a clue which order. Turns out I went to all the away games except Margate (@dover)
went to quite a few away in 1978/79 but since I stared going again in the late 90โs the Cheltenham โfirst televisedโ game started the fun of of approaching 400 since!

I was there in the home end, well the same end on the Kippax. Think it was 84 though.

Everton away FA cup early 80s. Sunday kick off we played in red and lost 2-1. I couldn't see a ruddy thing as I was about 5 feet tall at the time and surrounded by giants.

Sorry folks but Jaytee, who started the thread, stated first Conference match that you attended, not first match๐๐
If you missed that bit then have another go and also book yourself an appointment at Specsavers๐๐๐๐๐

"If that's true"? read Jaytees opening post at the top of the thread......yes it's true๐ Not too sure about Runcorn v Wigan at Canal Street as Jaytee refers to "the Conference season" which would suggest our one and only Conference season. BTW who won in 1974? and was that classified as a derby match?

I got to Burton just prior to kick off, Iโm sure I was directed by a steward to push through some conifer trees and out I came next to the turnstiles, both of them.
