A record 6 clean sheets on the roll for Exeter! If we play like we did in the first half, then we should be okay this season. If we play like we did in the second half, then we will be relegated!

Poor second half, thought their goal was offside but we created little, made some poor decisions when attacking. I think they were in 3rd gear that second half just soaking us up and breaking at pace.
Cannot really fault the first half but we seem to get punished for every mistake and they had our measure.

Very risky of commentary team to keep the mic open on ifollow when radio Shropshire cut back to the studio (I don't think they knew). Luckily they never said anything too bad.

Shows why we’re going down.
Even with one of our best halves of the season we still make defensive mistakes, can’t score, and completely run out of ideas. We’re just not good enough.

Pretty painful to see a fan owned moderately sized club packed full of talent they developed, training at a wonderful facility paid for by the Watkins money (https://www.exetercityfc.co.uk/news/2023/february/new-tag-video), playing good, posession based attractive football. Got some fantastic loan signings as well. Agree, but no reason we shouldn’t be like that. They have no stars, but fit and well organised and all know their role. It’s what we should aspire to.

Did I see Nsiala kissing a lady on his way out of the tunnel? Perhaps he's in love. I used to stand around day-dreaming when I was in love...... I don't think I had a football at my feet that someone very much wanted at the time though.

pretty good first half even thought it took a silly mistake and the gift of a goal for us to get going,, we did nothing but attack, tactics looked spot on, never seen us waste so many good chances though but when they kept coming it was kind of forgivable in a way, but 2nd half AGAIN, they changed things even made a sub, as many times this season town were left in the starting blocks, only one side was going to score the 2nd goal, our effort and attacks were non existent, 2-0 arrived right on cue and then a sub, well one sub, Leo would have come off then anyway , nothing changes on the pitch, the game is drifting away from us but no more changes until the last 10 minutes, and no place for our 'super sub Tom'. no visual signs of urgency at all from Hurst, he just stood there doing an impression of ten hagg
so frustrating, a point would have taken us out of the bottom 4, big chance passed us by tonight

Yep,poor 2nd half, ran out of ideas pretty quick, ball up in the air to much,no creativity in midfield, poor passing, and yes our defence will get us relegated, and last but not least, our physicality is non existent...we lose most of the 50/50 tackles.....goodnight

I'm completely baffled as to why so few of our players appealed about the blatant handball by Woods.
If Woods isn't getting one of our players sent off in an earlier game, then he's preventing us from scoring by virtue of a clear handball.

Offside, not offside? I think not. It looks like the scorer is behind the ball when it is passed.

Despite some positives a shoot ourselves in the foot game.
Today was the first time I have openly criticised Hurst and his decisions but my word, awful today. Everyone but him could see at 1-0 60 mins we needed to change things and freshen up. Instead we ponder, play sloppy and concede again (the phase of play before the offside cross was preventable).
Only then the subs come on, with barely mins to make an impression.
Shocking…..time for Hurst to go now. My patience has worn too thin.
Grimsby fans did warn us.

We played well after their first goal for the rest of the first half. 2nd half they were a cut above. We started the 2nd half as we finished the first but the 2nd goal killed our momentum and we started making poor decisions with the ball. Other than the goals and a couple of pot shots they did nothing and struggled against our press. Nothing short of a smash and grab tonight.

Afraid this isn’t looking good now. Next 6 games are vital. We need wins or we’re going to be too far adrift.

Just back, very frustrating but pleased with some performances.
How long did Town keep the ball for in the first half. That was great play.
I like the development of the front 3 of Lloyd, Marquis and Castledine, young Castledine works hard and has a footballing brain.
Jordan Rossiter has the heart of a lion, it looks like his Achillies went.
I thought the Feeneys did well.

Rossiter through on goal well saved Marquis shot from the rebound also well saved Castledine through on goal great opportunity to shoot but pulls it back for benning to shoot which was hand balled Benning free kick just wide A few goal mouth scrambles after a knockkdown of a set piece More that I can't recall right now Tonight could have been very different and we should have been celebrating a decent win and performance. Small margins. It sucks but no need for panic stations just yet.

I cant find the post but I remember a while back in a hurst coming back debate ? producing some stats about hurst and his EFL record since he left us, it was dire to say the least and possibly worse now at the start of the season, we played out from the back, and it wasnt working and we just dropped it, and yet our 2 once great centre backs ARIStote & PIErre are still allowed to prat about with the ball which often ends up being popped into the back of our net as a result the annoying thing is we have a keeper who is better with his feet than his hands, just give him the damn ball and let him play the football

Ah the Whitworth Thread came back to bite me,
He's a good goalkeeper that guy for Exeter.

What's with Gary Caldwell and David Perkins - the Exeter pair as well tonight, - A proper pair of bullies, even when winning.

We are on a shoestring budget and giving it a right go. I wouldn’t have expected us to have it in us to play as well as we did first half, just like Mansfield.
The sad truth is we just haven’t the ‘winning’ quality. We somehow lost both of those games. We find a way to lose, others find a way to win.
Still, I enjoyed it until the heads dropped at 2 0. Tonight was one of those nights where our pressure just deserved a lucky deflection but it wasn’t to be.

The most frustrating performance of the season yet.
Showed glimpses in a solid first half performance but came out in the second half looking like a rudderless ship.
I'm bored of hearing myself say it but no leadership on or off the pitch and a manager who lacks the cajones to make any decisions to effect the game when losing.
No one in their right mind with the changes available to them would have kept Ojo and Rossiter on the pitch together for so long.
Every pass is a square or backwards. In the unlikely event the ball goes forward, it goes to someone facing their own goal.
I haven't watched the first goal back yet but knowing Nsiala is an absolute walking disaster, why on earth do we insist on playing hospital balls to him or Savin rolling it out to him like he's prime Sergio Ramos.
No football intelligence to be found anywhere and no one taking any ownership whatsoever.
Would like to see the penalty shout people are talking about and a highly suspicious second goal but either way we got what we deserved.
Credit to Exeter, a well drilled unit and genuinely hope they run close this season.

Every pass is a square or backwards. In the unlikely event the ball goes forward, it goes to someone facing their own goal. The square and sideways football led regularly to bringing Exeter out of position and finding balls into feet through the entirety of the first half, and still did until the second goal of theirs. The other option is resorting back to asking our striker(s) to chase hopeful diagonal balls into the channel and give up possession so easily, as has happened for seasons and seasons now, and barely result in chances or goals. The way we played tonight created plenty. I must be watching a different game.

I've highlighted one of your points , the craziest moment of the night for me was Leo, through on goal, just as we all thought he was about to smash the ball from about 8 yards into the net, he somehow thought laying the ball towards the edge of the box for Benning arriving in slow motion was the better option just summed up the whole evening that

Thought first half we were the better side but an individual mistake cost us, second half not much in it but conceded an offside goal. How the ref missed the Wood hand ball is beyond me. Things aren’t falling for us but we need to find a ruthless streak and/or cut out the stupid mistakes

In effect the same as against Stockport but with a much much better performance.
It could have been about 6-1 at half time.

Saw the very condensed highlights, the second goal is clearly offside, scorer has run from behind Feeney.
Castledine's efforts not on the reel, would be interested to see the one where he crossed instead of shot.

As someone who has defended Hurst often this season due to the difficult hand he has been dealt, his lack of awareness and tactical flexibility to make subs is killing us.
We were awful all second half and never looked like getting back into the game, we have some decent attacking wide options and he leaves it too long.
TOR & Castledine need to be starting games together.
Nsiala shouldn’t play again, move M Feeney into the middle and put Hoole RCB who has experience there.
Gilliead seems to be Hursts new favourite player, has played 90 minutes in a variety of positions, offering very little.
