my opinion is the England manager should be English and a good stat to go with it... no manager has every won the World Cup with a country other than his own nationality

Interesting appointment. A good one, I think. Doesn't bother me whether the national manager's English or not.

Whoever takes over from Southgate is on a loser unless they can get to major finals.
If they don't match that the press are just waiting to follow their back pages with the usual cr ap

I agree there isn't much many English managers with his tactical prowess and his unaffiliation can also give an advantage in ways. Not bowing to the pressure of the nation for team selection etc. But I still maintain the manager of a nation should be of the nation.

So if only native managers are generally all the major countries choose, it is no wonder that only native managers win I gather Steven Naismith is available if that counts as native :-)

Tuchel never rated him in all honesty. I’ve never been one for foreign managers kind of got on with it with Sven and the Italian chap. But a manager from our arch rivals the Germans it’s like klopp going to United from Liverpool nah

I would prefer an English manager but Carsley's indecision about whether he wanted the job and the daft line-up he started with against Greece cost him the chance with the FA. Tuchel's CV looks superior when compared with those of the most prominent English contenders like Howe and Potter though I would worry a bit about his barren year with Bayern and his tendency to fall out with the people around him. Having said that he is an upgrade tactically on Southgate and he clearly does not suffer fools gladly so perhaps he is the man to improve the England team defensively and also to solve the conundrum of how to fit our attacking talent into a more effective unit in the big tournament games. Willkommen Thomas!

Tuchel has apologised for being German.
New England head coach Thomas Tuchel on unhappy supporters: "I am sorry I have a German passport. Maybe these supporters felt my passion for the Premier League and the country, how I love to live here and work here. Hopefully, I can convince them and show them how I am proud to be the England manager. I am proud."

All I can say is that if he wins the World Cup, he will become English – no doubt about that!

Not sure why being Germans being bounced about even by him, being foreign when the majority want an English manager's the thing. Are they going to close St George's Park managers pathway programmer?

Winning the Champions League with a Chelsea team that was nowhere near the best in England, never mind Europe, was a huge achievement.
He's won something everywhere he's been - German Cup at Dortmund, French league twice at PSG, German league at Bayern, as well as that CL at Chelsea - that more than overshadows the one dud season at Bayern.
He clearly demands things be done his way - quite rightly - so he'll ruffle feathers no doubt. Maybe that's what England need to push on and convert tournament successes into actual wins.

The thing that's got my goat is an ex wrexham player being his assistant. What has become of us fffff k Actually his appointment as no2 is a positive as he was Martinez assistant at Belgium and Portugal before going to Bayern to be Tuchel number 2. So based on that he will have experience with 2 top national teams which will be useful. The fact he played 31 games for Wrexham in 2016 is irrelevant….

One question , is he going to be like most previous managers and just select from the so called big sides ?
I see Dominic solanke recently got giving his 2nd cap having just signed for spurs , he made in England debut in 2017 having just signed for Liverpool but hadn't actually scored for them or even started for them , Nothing in between despite him scoring almost 80 goals for Bournemouth

Last English manager to win the Premier League, Howard Wilkinson in 1992-93! Last English manager to win a trophy, Harry Redknapp in 2008! And people wonder how the FA struggle to find an English manager! Rather have a foreign winner than an English loser!
