"Welsh clubs in the EFL have not participated in an FAW competition since the FAW Premier Cup – which did not offer European qualification – was abolished in 2008." but they did get in Europe for winning the welsh cup up until about the mid 90s when the welsh FA tried to drag them all into the Welsh league but failed so stopped them entering the welsh cup, the winners still qualified for Europe after this into the cup winners cup, no idea what happened after that comp was scrapped

Without googling I believe they were beaten by Carl Zeiss Jena from the old DDR

So the four teams get to play in the Welsh league cup and if they win that they go into the European conference league. Once they do this they can’t turn back. So if they join the Welsh league cup and then one day finish top 4 in premier league and qualify for champions league or win a fa cup and qualify for Europa league they can’t qualify

my tuppence of thoughts as posted on our forum
In all honesty we aren't going to be competing for European places through the premier league, FA or League cups any time soon and probably never will.
If we do get to the Prem then we would have a squad capable of winning the Welsh league cup and getting into Europe that way, but would mean we would never grace the champions league ,only the Europa or Conference
But again, chances of us ever finishing top 4 in the prem? slim to none
Worst case I could see is if we did win the English League Cups somehow and can't qualify through that route, would probably happen at most once in my lifetime!
we have competed in European competitions as recently as 1995-96, and it would be a welcome distraction

You're either a Welsh club playing in the English system and abiding by the FA rules or you can be a Welsh club playing in the Cymru Premier and abiding by the Wales FA rules. You can't pick and chose to suit yourselves As usual this just stinks of money, probably brought on by the reconstructed European competitions and the reports on how much T.N.S are making out of their latest adventure whatever next ?, both T.N.S and Bersick Rangers competing in the FA Cup because their grounds are in England ?....just greed

This would seriously damage the sporting integrity of the football league.
To open up a significant potential revenue stream to a few clubs based on geographical location that is entirely closed to the majority.

But then Merthyr Town FC should also be included.
They are also a Welsh club currently playing in the Southern League Premier South.

Staggering, they need to play all their football there not pick and chose just to suit themselves. It's even worse than PL clubs getting to play in the English League Cup. They should have been banned from it back in 1992.
