Rotherham currently sit in the relegation spots. Two places above us in 21st. Like us they have only won once...against the mighty Huddersfield ...reading into it though, it wasn't a convincing victory...
Rotherham 2-1 Hudderfield
Penalty and last minute winner. Hudders with a man sent off.
So maybe...we have a chance??? At home too??? Please?

if we are to win any games, this is a must win but then we stuffed up against Stevenage, Oldham and Mansfield. if either Nsiala Pierre are playing then we can expect them to stuff it up for us.
I know the star can be selective about how they portray an interview, but an increasingly frustrated sounding Hurst commenting on defensive errors losing games, unable to see out games and not making the most of the chances was the main theme. he also expressed concerns about if we cant start picking up points we risk been cast adrift at the bottom of the table.

How extremely astute of him to realise this. I wonder how much he is paid to state something we could have told them for free!
Here’s hoping it will all change on Saturday. It’s time we beat Rotherham.

It’s time we beat Rotherham. bringing back the two useless centre backs is down to Hurst and what a huge and very costly mistake that has been. but i also feel sorry for him his choice of players he could bring in has been restricted by the finances. whatever he may coach them on the training ground ,when they go on the pitch its then down to the players to do it. whilst they are trying and slowly improving we just keep making frustratingly school boy errors which have cost us games and a failure to put away chances were you expect them to score, can be down to confidence and a lack of quality . if you shop at Poundland you wont get the same quality as M&S.

A 2-0 win would see us leapfrog them in the table.
So, that's my prediction, a Town win!

It will quite ironic that we have loaned their cast off if we end up above them in the table!

First home game of the season, looking forward to this one. Family meal at my sister's on Friday night, birthday meal out in town on Saturday, plus the Shrewsbury half marathon Sunday morning before the long drive home.
Just need three points for pretty much the perfect weekend.

It’s time we beat Rotherham. Paul Hurst speaks honestly after the game including his own mistakes so I respect him for that. We might all see the individual errors made but PH talks about less obvious failings which as a coach he sees but some of us fans may not be quite so astute. I always find his comments interesting Finances dictated our recruitment this summer and we also find ourselves in the strongest League 1 for many years. It was always going to be tough but the loss of Josh Feeny has proved critical to our defence. Its still early days and we've played well in games but never for 90 minutes. I can understand Hursts frustrations with individual errors as he can do nothing about that once the game kicks off. We are not far away from being a decent twin my opinion but we need the points to prove it - and soon.

I think for player confidence and the fans this is a must win game, go away from this game with another defeat whilst still early in the season, will just increase the despondency.

Would love nothing more than beating these, I'm still bitter about them beating us 1-0 at home when we still had an outside chance of automatic promotion in 2017/18, and then making it even worse by beating us in the play off final the same season.

We have a terrible record against them in recent years, our last 4 home games against them
01.03.2022 Shrewsbury Town 0-0 Rotherham United 26.12.2019 Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Rotherham United 17.02.2018 Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Rotherham United 18.01.2014 Shrewsbury Town 0-3 Rotherham United
With the recent results I expect a poor crowd and everything to feel flat, so ideally there would be a early dodgy decision that goes against us with Evans heavily involved. That riles the crowd and then everyone is united.
Random fact is after Saturday, we only have 3 more scheduled home games on a Saturday in 2024 (1 per month)

They may not end up right up the top after this start but I’d be absolutely amazed if Rotherham aren’t in a false position right now.
I’m fully expecting them to turn up and look much better than their league position, as they were top 6 material before a ball was kicked.
I just hope people aren’t expecting them to turn up and be crap, because I reckon it’s going to be really, really tough.

Random fact is after Saturday, we only have 3 more scheduled home games on a Saturday in 2024 (1 per month) Weirdly our away record there is really good. Off the top of my head we might even be unbeaten at their new ground, two very impressive wins under Cotterill and Hurst, the latter being one of the most exciting games I've seen us in, and I think reasonably good points in relatively poor seasons under Turner and Ricketts. Think we had a good record at the Don Valley too, can remember a couple of wins and a draw, albeit a ground that was about as far from a cauldron as is possible. That home form and of course the Wembley defeat still gives them the feel of a bogey team though. All three of those defeats were appalling, the end of Turner's reign, a horrible performance at a time when we needed results to keep up the pressure under Hurst (and showed they completely had us worked out, as they did at Wembley), and a sickening last minute defeat after playing ok on Boxing Day under Ricketts, which sent us spiralling from play-off contenders in 2019 to hurtling towards a relegation battle in 2020 before Covid intervened. And the less said about the Wembley defeat the better, don't think I've ever been as miserable after a Town game.

Weirdly our away record there is really good. Yep your right, this is the record since 2007. We last beat them at home in 2012, whilst they last beat us at their place in 2007 League One 19.03.2022 Rotherham United 0-3 Shrewsbury Town 01.03.2022 Shrewsbury Town 0-0 Rotherham United 26.12.2019 Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Rotherham United 21.09.2019 Rotherham United 0-0 Shrewsbury Town 17.02.2018 Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Rotherham United 18.11.2017 Rotherham United 1-2 Shrewsbury Town 18.01.2014 Shrewsbury Town 0-3 Rotherham United 24.08.2013 Rotherham United 2-2 Shrewsbury Town League Two 14.04.2012 Shrewsbury Town 3-1 Rotherham Utd 22.10.2011 Rotherham Utd 1-1 Shrewsbury Town 20.03.2011 Rotherham Utd 1-3 Shrewsbury Town 04.09.2010 Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Rotherham Utd 22.02.2010 Rotherham Utd 1-1 Shrewsbury Town 01.12.2009 Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Rotherham Utd 18.04.2009 Rotherham Utd 1-2 Shrewsbury Town 06.12.2008 Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Rotherham Utd 08.03.2008 Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Rotherham Utd 24.11.2007 Rotherham Utd 2-0 Shrewsbury Town

I forgot Evans was their manager 🙈 You can tell they've had a bad start as he's made the news a few times with his less than gracious antics following some games. I did see some Rotherham fans suggesting that if they lost on Saturday it would be time to get rid of him.

We used to be pretty good, at least during that period. Apart from the obvious exception (and I don’t mean the 12th place finish), L1 has just been a grind.

We moan if managers hide behind nonsense and don’t call us crap when we’re crap, and then we moan when someone comes in who says a lot more. I had to laugh at the pre-Mansfield comments on the match thread about his interviews, and upsetting the players etc. You only have to listen to him speak to realise quite how little there is to be upset by. No player would’ve been upset listening, and it didn’t feel in any way aimed at individuals. He needs results though, that much is true.

A Six pointer,
Hope its more like the Orient game than the Charlton one.
My first home match as well, (Its taken too long).
Doubt the injuries to J.Feeney and TOR mean that they won't start but would be nice to see Taylor Perry involved.

We don't create a huge amount either which adds pressure to finishing those half chances. Hopefully a positive result tomorrow before Stockport midweek.
