Amazing how many times it inspires them
Couple of weeks ago wolves booed madueke , never scored more than once before for Chelsea , scores 3 in 15 minutes
Ireland booed Declan Rice & jack grealish , rice scores after 10 mins and then sets up grealish 15 mins later for 2-0
Saturday town targeted McLean , later announced as man of the man

As great as our support was on Saturday, booing the likes of McLean and Mullin when they were 3-0 up made us look/sound incredibly tinpot.
Players like that thrive on the booing, if anything. Not that they particularly care. Best to just ignore them at all times.

A bit like us singing God Save the King trying to compete with Land of My Father just as Wrexham scored their 3rd. Certainly silenced our fans π©

Certainly silenced our fans π© our fans were as reactive with their songs as hurst was with his subs ie waiting to see what they do first and copying bus stop in telford, followed up by bus stop in Chester they could have least said something funny like chirk we even booed Ryan Barnett, I bet he's gutted cotterill released him

F*****g Cotterill. Will probably go down as the worst decision the club will ever make. To rub salt into the wounds we'll probably get to see him next season. I'll be giving him more than I gave that Wrexham left back...... Not Joey Jones obviously...

On the other hand I remember James Collins and Ivan Toney getting completely wound up by the crowd on their return and having absolute shockers.

Iβve always booed McLean and always will. I know heβs from Londonderry/Derry and from the Republican side, but the hypocrisy to accept the Kingβs shilling whilst insulting the British dead is beyond me! If you hate the British so much, then done donβt bloody work there! Rant over.

If booing is counterproductive, perhaps we should cheer opponents?!

If you hate the British so much, then done donβt bloody work there! Rant over. From the royal British legion It's a matter of personal choice whether someone chooses to wear a poppy and how they choose to wear it. We simply ask that if you do wear a poppy, you wear it with pride. I can't actually see any advice from them on how to single out anyone who isn't wearing one

Gary Bennett & Tony Ellis were my favourites to boo. That never really ended well either! James McClean always seemed to antagonise me recently but Iβm too old to boo these days as itβs all pantomime - with the exception of refs but thatβs not normally booing - just swearing!!!

It depends on the players character, some love it and almost encourage it, McLean is an example of that and players like Gary Bennett were indeed another one, Jemson is the best one I could think of who take great joy in winding up the opposition (and some of our own fans!). But other players can be affected by it in a negative way, either they lose their heads and lash out or they can crumble under the abuse.
Going back to McLean, the poppy thing doesn't bother me, as already has been said, it's a personal choice and considering his upbringing, I can understand why he doesn't wear it. However, the thing that annoys me about him is him playing the victim and complaining about the abuse he gets, when he does stuff like post photo's of himself in balaclava's and openly singing anti monarchy songs then it's no surprise that he's going to get targeted by (some) fans.

I can only speak for myself, but when I played Sunday League, we played a few village teams. They sometimes had reasonable support, (until the pubs opened anyway), I loved being the pantomime villain. The truth is, I was useless at football so I did some rough and tumble. My good friend, Bainers, used to call me, Bully Bloggs, which was a bit rich coming from him, because if I was the panto villain, he was hardly Cinderella himself, so I set out to be booed. Because I'd got a bit of a boot on me I used to take the goal kicks. It was not unusual for the home fans to give me what for as I strolled back to take the kick. My favourite boo was out at a village called Essington where we were playing the local team. As I wandered back to take the goal kick, I'd been my usual boisterous self, when one of their supporters shouted out, "send 'im off, ref, he shouldn't be allowed on a ****ing football field".
I took it as a compliment, and it made me quite emotional. So I never boo players because of the tremendous enjoyment I got out of it myself.

Booing players ! Jesus Christ what on earth is that all about . I go to a match to watch football , to support my team not to β boo β the opposition . Itβs not play time in the school yard. I find it very sad that grown ups think calling our β boo, boo β is a good thing . Honestly I think some need to get a bloody life .

An alternative view is by barracking opposition players, it can help your team. When players and managers talk about wanting fans to make a ground hostile, then what do you think they are actually asking for? Yes they want to sing and get behind the team but they also want you to get on the backs of the opposition players (and the same goes for the officials too).
