Only pet I'd go for is a dog, nothing else.
Had 2 dogs over my 40 odd years of moving away from parents. Not had anything for the last 10 years or so, too restricting when we like to travel abroad for breaks (would cost a fortune in kennel fees). Would probably have another small dog if we ever got that we couldnt fly for any reason.

Always had pets, currently 2 GSDs and a miniature poodle. Also a black cat called Billy who’s 16 and had to put up with 5/6 different dogs over his life time. He's always been the boss with GSDs grooming him on request, only the poodle chases him but he just stands still and ignores it ……

I've a ragdoll cat called Mavis, she's helped with my mental health massively, lost my previous cat (PC) just over 2 years ago, it broke my heart to lose him, he was my second skin and quite thankfully so now is Mavis, we took her off the hands of a lovely lady who had to give to her up due to her dementia.

Had dogs all my life including a Police dog. Now get a lot of pleasure doing dog sits at home or in people's homes whilst they are away on holiday. So much better for dogs to be kept in same routine if possible rather than putting in kennels. Met some great people and dogs over the years.

I've only ever been around dogs, but 3 years ago we got a cat, and my god is it an eye opener!!
It's like living with a semi-wild animal.

My father was a gamekeeper and so we just had working dogs, two Labradors spaniel and a terrier when I was growing up. My daughter conned us when she was a teenager claiming she was looking after a hamster whilst her friend and her family were on holiday in the US , it was a very long holiday as she stayed with us for the rest of her life, then two stray cats who were not chipped we ask all round our estate so they v no idea were they came from as one was semie feral. All now sadly passed away. Due to my age my wife and I don't want any more pets.
I much prefer dogs!

Always had dogs , love em . Have had a cat when my daughters were young but not really keen on them. Put it this way, if my dog gets into a garden and s**ts what would the response be? But, when a cat comes into my garden, digs up plants and s**ts everywhere I have to accept it . Cats are let loose to roam and cause carnage amongst the bird population . Unfortunately I do not have a dog now, at my age it’s too much of a commitment sadly .

You could re home a retired or withdrawn guide dog, that’s what we’ve done 👍 www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/rehoming-a-guide-dog/

Have a border collie / corgi mix called Bertie and he’s as mad as a box of frogs! I understand that if he was pure thoroughbred he would be called a Borgi, which sounds very Scandinavian!

Hey decided to get an older cat when we got married so then when we had kids we could get a dog.
So we got Bobby. He was about ten.
That was 17 years ago.
My daughter is 13 and we still have no dog but we do have a cat who is 27.
He's not well now and possibly on his way out but goodness me he's been a good pet.

Some unverified accounts tell of cats around the world that can live into their early 30s.
Currently, the oldest living cat, verified as of 2022, is Flossie, a now 27-year-old British kitty, which Guinness touts as “roughly the feline equivalent of 120 human years.”
Is your cat called Flossie?!?
