I was accused of being political in the last one of these, so I'll try to make this one as apolitical as I can.
Who would you regard as the best comedians/comic hosts.
Richard Pryor tops my list, followed by George Carlin from the past.
Currently Trevor Noah and John Oliver.
Best sketch show was Not The Nine O'clock News, closely followed by Naked Video.

In my opinion Michael McIntyre is the funniest person ever to have lived. He is absolutely hilarious.
Mrs Brown's Boys is the greatest comedy series EVER, nothing else comes close.

I’m old so I’m afraid all the new stuff leaves me cold.
For me it’s old stuff like Morecambe and Wise, Dads Army, Alan Coren on the radio and anything satirical,

Used to find Jasper Carrott very funny.
Went to see Hale and Pace live, considered leaving as my sides were hurting as I was laughting so much. Then watched them on TV and the least funny thing I have seen

Jasper Carrot is still very funny and still performing live around the country just for fun. Obviously doesn't need the money.

Peter Kay.
Great northern humour.
Also saw Mick Miller not long ago.
He's been around for a long time but still very funny.

The only time in my life I have literally fallen off my chair laughing. When they came on TV I was telling everyone to watch but they were disappointing. I think the difference was that a TV show is scripted while their live set was full of ad libs and interaction with the audience.

Bottom on the TV was brilliant, in fact anything with Rik Mayall was, but I've been watching some clips of the live shows and those two were level above.

I would heartily second this. Whenever Michael McIntyre is on, I put on my lollerskates and pour myself a big glass of lmaonade. That stories he tells about going to the dentist and random words for getting drunk are just so hysterically relatable and relatably hysterical as I also a) go to the dentist and b) drink alcoholic drinks! lol!

Tommy Copper.
Outstanding comedian and magician. For me, he just had it all.
Was fortunate enough to see him at a Magic Circle event in Blackpool years ago.

Another vote from me for Carrott, and Mrs Browns Boys (about the only thing I find funny on TV these days).
I'd also add Only Fools and Horses, and Till Deafh Us Do Part. Some great clips of both on Utube.

In film I genuinely miss the era of airplane, space balls, blazing saddles, the naked gun, police academy. You watch them now and they're still so funny.
I think American Pie was the turning point and most comedy films since then have been tripe because they're all trying to match that shock and awe and boundary pushing but it is just boring now.

I started watching the new Beverly hills cop but turned it off 15 mins in , loved the original ones

Thanks for the tip, I just looked it up.
Those two were a class above. Absolutely stark raving mad and yet completely controlled genius too.

Another one who loved Bottom, I had a live show from Bristol (I think) and their ability entertain, even when they had messed things up was superb. Although I have to say the film they did was absolutely terrible.
You'll get a lot of 'modern comedy is s**t' posts but there's still plenty of decent modern day comedians and sitcoms. I think one the issues is prime time & mainstream stuff (e.g. Saturday night on BBC) is a bit bland. But there's still funny things out there.
What does mystify me is how anyone can like Mrs Brown's Boy's but as we regularly say, it would be boring if we all liked the same things.

Tony Hancock, Dave Allen, Morecambe and Wise, Bob Newhart.
Best comedy ever - Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. But it's more a documentary than a comedy, showing the interrelationship between the political classes and the Civil Service.
And nothing much has changed since the 1980s! My colleague who taught Government and Politics regularly used it with his classes. It's no wonder it was Thatcher's favourite programme.
Only Fools and Horses and Last of the Summer Wine are 2 more worthy of mention. As is Frasier.
That said, I've been accused of being a cross between Victor Meldrew in One Foot in the Grave and Onslow in Keeping up Appearances.
Onslow's outlook does have some similarities to mine i must admit. Never put off til tomorrow what you can put off til the day after tomorrow.

My favourite stand up is undoubtedly Stewart Lee. The late Jeremy Hardy was much underrated too.
On TV I love Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Phil Silvers (Sgt Bilko), anything with Chris Morris (The Day Today, Brass Eye, The IT Crowd), Steve Coogan/Partridge of course & I've really enjoyed the recent Australian imports (No Activity and Colin From Accounts).
Hard to match peak Steve Martin on film (The Man With Two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Jerk, Planes, Trains & Automobiles) - how many have a comedy film CV anywhere near as good? I do love a gentle old Ealing comedy though.
Radio shouldn't be left out. A lot of classic TV shows started out on radio (Mitchell & Webb, The Day Today, Blue Jam). A couple that went under the radar are the criminally neglected Party (with Tom Basden, Tim Key, Katy Wix etc) & John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme. Elis James & John Robins are great on 5Live and of course there are the ever reliable Radio 4 classics - I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Just A Minute.

Am I the only one who never found Last of the Summer Wine (& Dads Army) funny?
If it was on I used to sit there wondering if I would ever find anything to laugh about through the whole programme.

You could probably class the last of the summer wine as gentle humour. What I find really annoying is that Bill Owen (Compo) was my current age when the series first aired.
To quote Capt. Darling in Blackadder Goes Forth ''Bugger''.
