The only politician I can think of that might have made a decent fist of it is Ted Heath, but then you have the problem of succession.
Did the pairing of Prince Phillip enhance the Queen's reign? I reckon so, she was certainly affected by his demise.
Having met Mr Heath, admittedly only once, I can tell you that he was the most socially awkward individual I have ever come across - definitely not the sort of individual to speak with,or for,the people of Britain, in my opinion. I think I liked that about him
At least he had interests, sailing, music, we would have been big on the arts. I'd like to have met him but then I'd like to go out to dinner with Diane Abbott - to make up my own mind.

Good point - maybe we should abolish the Royals after all 😉
Remember this? Imagine what horrors that gimp and his current wife could bestow on the great state rooms of Buck House, Windsor and Balmoral.
you know what that room is missing ? yeah a nice sofa ;-)

That's one of the main reasons I have for keeping a small royal family. That and the fact that there are Muppets in this country that would vote for the likes of effin' Johnson or even Farage. Good point - maybe we should abolish the Royals after all 😉 The big problem is even if the public all agreed on someone, anyone, then what would we do about succession when they shuffle off this mortal coil. The Royals have to groom the next in line, entrust them with some of the work, school them for the inevitable role they will fulfil. Perhaps most important, keep their nose clean, unlike their wayward brothers....

They need their throne converting into one of those Graham Norton red chairs , and if they annoy us we can pull the level and get the next in line in 👍

The only senior politician I ever met was Ken Clarke. We chatted about football, beer and jazz, he seemed relieved that politics wasn’t mentioned. He wouldn’t be a bad shout for president in the unlikely event of a vacancy.

I love it that we have a head of state who is above the sordid and squalid arena of politics. That's one of the main reasons I have for keeping a small royal family. That and the fact that there are Muppets in this country that would vote for the likes of effin' Johnson or even Farage. Or indeed ‘Two Tier Kier’…….Oh Wait!……hardly anyone did vote for him.
