Seeing as Pilch hasn't done another one I figured someone should.
What are peoples views of the Royal Family?
Personally I'm a small 'r' republican, not to be confused with the right wing nut jobs over the pond. I don't agree with having a royal family, but I wouldn't trust the British electorate to choose a president, so it's better than the possible alternatives.

I am totally and utterly in favour all the time we have a monarch who takes their role seriously and works hard and one who realises what a privileged upbringing they have had which needs to be acknowledged to the public.
I wouldnβt give you tuppence for the hangers on like Harry and I think we now have it about right with the numbers in the main family.
As one very recent example, the Kingβs visit to Southport yesterday will have given some recognition to the families and others involved that they matter in a world which is cruel and selfish at times. I doubt a politician would have the same effect.
Never a president for me Iβm afraid.

I like the majority of them. ππ I preferred it back when you could rock up and fight the monarch for his crown , damn red tape these days ;-) on a serious note, they clearly get too much money and get away with too much, what really annoys me is when there is a death, ok I sit a watch for a bit on tv, and then I want to move on, dont put my life on hold for 2 weeks for me

To me they are one of many things that make us,the British, slightly quirky, different and generally "happy in our own skin" I love all of the pomp and ceremony that accompanies a lot of what they do and also believe that they know that they have a privileged lifestyle but they have to "put on a show"for the public when attending events. I wouldn't change them for the world

Our great institution. The right brother is in the job now and the right brother will be in the job next. The way our King greeted Starmer when he became PM said it all "You must be exhausted" he said.

I refer to myself as a "monarchist" as opposed to a "royalist" - I respect and admire the institution, but can do without the fawning and subservience exhibited by some.
As the OP, and others surmise, the potential downsides of electing a President are too dire to even contemplate!

It's an absolutely bonkers concept established through history by people who are responsible for the most horrific crimes.
Knock it on the head lads.

I am a republican but I did admire the late queen as she stayed true to her faith and lived her life accordingly.
From Tony Blair onwards I would not won't any of them to be president What put me off the king was when he accepted Β£3 million in cash for his charity, one of his flunkies fell on his sword but the money was never paid back.

I'm unashamedly Pro Royal Pro Britain and strong supporter of our Armed Forces. You do realise that they are mutually exclusive. Like I said small 'r' republican, but fully support the armed forces as long as they're acting in the interests of the country and are obeying the Geneva Convention. The tourism argument is weak to say the least. The Palace of Versailles gets more visitors than every single royal residence combined. The Changing of the Guard doesn't need a royal family to happen. They have similar things in most European countries.

I love it that we have a head of state who is above the sordid and squalid arena of politics.

Just imagine a President Blair or President Johnson!
Given that a head of state is necessary the solution we have reached during our long history is probably the best compromise. A non partisan, non political head of state that behaves with dignity, publicly anyway, will do for me.
I also must admit some sympathy for King Charles, we are a similar age and I would hate to have swapped his life for mine. In fact I think that the best argument against the monarchy is what it does to the people in it.

Big supporter of the Royal Family, its history, traditions, pomp and ceremony.
I echo other similar sentiments though, it will never be the same now the late great HRH Queen Elizabeth II has sadly departed. A simply irreplaceable woman

I love it that we have a head of state who is above the sordid and squalid arena of politics. That's one of the main reasons I have for keeping a small royal family. That and the fact that there are Muppets in this country that would vote for the likes of effin' Johnson or even Farage.

The only politician I can think of that might have made a decent fist of it is Ted Heath, but then you have the problem of succession.
Did the pairing of Prince Phillip enhance the Queen's reign? I reckon so, she was certainly affected by his demise.

Remember this? Imagine what horrors that gimp and his current wife could bestow on the great state rooms of Buck House, Windsor and Balmoral.

Having met Mr Heath, admittedly only once, I can tell you that he was the most socially awkward individual I have ever come across - definitely not the sort of individual to speak with,or for,the people of Britain, in my opinion.
