Before my time, but saw this in the news. He had two spells with Town (1960/63 & 1970/72) So sad to hear this. One of my all time favourite Town wingers, on a par with Paul Maguire. I remember coming out of school and glancing in the window of a tv shop. England were playing Northern Ireland in an afternoon kick off (pre Wembley floodlights maybe). Jimmy Mac turned Armfield inside out and scored a goal. Brilliant player and a lovely guy as well. Rest in Peace Jimmy and thanks for the memories.

Absolute gentleman and one of my favourite ever players from an era when town believed in wingers and were so much more entertaining to watch. With his rounded shoulders he was so easy to pick out on a football pitch. Had a great managerial period in Northern Ireland with Derry City. Recently watch a documentary on his success. What a pity we at town didnt see his managerial qualities. RIP. Thanks for the great memories.

My memory goes back to his first spell and in that first season he contributed to our reaching the first ever League Cup Semi Final including 2 replays against Swindon. Those were the days. RIP Jimmy www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c990pg4nv3no

Sad news, I only saw him in his second spell with us.
That documentary about his role at Derry City was eye-opening, and included Terry Harkin, another favourite from that era.

Another great player from my day gone, he was a wizard of dribble scored quite a few for the Town, biggest memory was when we played Peterboro at home one evening after being 3-1 up at ht we went on to lose 4-3, following day he was called up for N.I., a week later we played Peterboro away and won 3-0, Jimmy Mac scoring a hat trick RIP JIMMY MAC.

For the elderly folk on B&A (including me, b.1956) the obvious Town Super-God might be Alf Wood - and why not. But the most memorable image that resides permanently in my memory (c.1969/70) is from an evening match at the Gay Meadow as 'Jimmy Mac' raced down the wing with the ball on the Riverside heading for the Wakeman End, leaving some hapless defender in his wake. It was a wet and rainy night with the floodlights creating an enhanced visual atmosphere. I thank Jimmy McLaughlin for this personal memory. R.I.P. Super Hero Jimmy.

Although I knew that Jim had been in poor health this still comes as very sad news.
Anyone who has read my stuff on here over the years will know that Jim was my favourite Town player and a boyhood hero.
I will not repeat the various stories about Jim’s career I’ve posted here which were also printed in a match day programme for a game v Peterborough and Backpass magazine and instead tell a personal story to illustrate what a lovely person he was.
In 2006 we took a family holiday to Ireland part of which was exploring my Dad’s family roots in Kilkenny and I thought it would be nice to try to meet Jim on our way back to Dublin to chat about his time in Shrewsbury.
I booked for us to stay a couple of nights in an hotel near Jim’s home in Dundalk and agreed with Jim to meet for a beer in the hotel bar. Within a few minutes of meeting him he offered to put us up in his daughters house which was empty while she worked abroad and insisted that he would cancel our booking as he was pals with the hotel owner and would compensate him with tickets to upcoming games.
He also invited us to his house for a meal and an evening of reminiscences. He and his wife Reina could not have been more hospitable and we had a great time looking back on his life and career.
His modesty was very striking, credit for his success he gave to others - especially Arthur Rowley and Tommy Seymour at Shrewsbury. While in his home you would hardly know that he had been involved with football, the only souvenir on display was a photo of him shaking hands with Sven before a European Cup game. He also didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone, he was one of those people everyone likes.
As said before, an absolute gentleman, an outstanding footballer and the most successful manager in Irish football history.
RIP Jim and deepest condolences to Reina and family.

I was very disappointed there was no tribute/ mention of his passing at the club today especially with him also playing for Posh in his career.
Very poor and if any Ryan should have been aware (his era) and at the very least given him a mention...

What a fine player Jimmy was. I remember one game when Jimmy was on international duty for Northern Ireland, the score was Northern Ireland 1, Scotland 6. The score was read out, and the announcer said he believed the Northern Ireland goal was scored by Jimmy. There was a tremendous cheer around the owd Meddah.
Rest in peace Jimmy.

I remember with great fondness the players who played in the same team as Jimmy in that era. I can picture each and every one of them. I would struggle to name yesterday's team. Great memories from very different Gay Meadow times.

Well done the club for doing the right thing.
I hope younger supporters can be informed about Jim’s achievements, imagine having a winger with his goals per game now!
Plus he was the first player in our professional era to win full international caps, a matter of great pride at the time.
