Will Evans from Llanfyllin who played for Bala in the LOW has moved from Newport County to Mansfield Town for a fee believed to be £200,000 after scoring 21 goals in League Two last season for 18th placed County. It is the first fee County have received for a player since 2018 apparently.
Do Town ever bother watching any LOW games ?

Was he playing for Bala at the same time as Dave Edwards?

this is why we were hunting in the Irish league last season
since Brexit the big boys eg all of the premier league and most of the championship cannot throw their money around Europe anymore and sign up and endless supply of young kids on the off chanceone of them becomes a star, instead they are concentrating on the UK , and of course that means the likes of shrewsbury are having to look lower down the leagues and pay OTT for any players that haven't already been snapped up for whatever reason
the gap continues to get wider

See that Swindon have signed Billy Kirkman from TNS to be part of their development squad
Do you think that we looked at him?

Just looked him up when he was with Bala he scored 24 goals in 55 games For Newport he scored 23 goals in 91 games were he played wing back and due to his goal scoring ability was then playing as a forward.
I would have thought that this would be exactly the kind of player would have been looking for.

You know the League of Wales isn't that good a standard. Good luck to the kid from Llanfyllin all the same.

I would view TNS as outside of any discussion as they are full time and are a much higher standard than the other 11 teams. However players do move up from the Cymru into League 2 on a regular basis, EG during this summer as well as the lad going from TNS to Swindon there are 2 who have joined Newport and 1 has joined Tranmere

There's the odd hidden gem in every league and every country but the huge mistake by Moore to buy 3 from Ireland has made me cynical of these leagues.

I'm sure they do. Bare in mind he's had 2 years at league two to get this move into league one, and in his first season only scored 2 league goals in 45 games.
The step up from LOW to league 1 is huge. We saw that with the guys from LOI last season, with all 3 of them now not at the club
Just like Orsi who's gone to Burton, he's had 1 good season in professional league football. Will they have another? Who knows.
A lot of money is spent on forwards, but very few have consistent regular goals scored at the level they are playing at because if they did they would probably move to a higher level.

Where on earth have Mansfield got £200k from?
What with Burton also splashing the cash and Wycombe and MK Dons both bankrolled by billionaire consortiums the going is getting ever tougher.

It makes you think how much money we potentially lost by the number of young strikers we dumped who went on to greater things: Gray, Bradshaw, McAtee, this guy.

For Every Tom Bradshaw there is a Max Mata.
Admittedly I think what Dave Edwards said in his MM podcast about Ryan Barnett and Charlie Caton rings truer.

The headline should really be "L2 striker in £200k move" and then some of our fans need to realise that in 2024, in the footballing world, £200k is not a lot of money.

In fairness in the lower leagues we don't know if it is or not as fees are always undisclosed What's our record fee paid? Some still say John Dungworth/ Mark Blake £100k ,so how much did we pay for Grant Holt?..it was never revealed

But I always think if our first thoughts are a player we signed 45 years ago, it's perhaps a sign that the club haven't kept pace with the rest of the footballing world.
