I usually like Clare Balding but oh my, she is slowly doing my bloody head in commenting on the swimming events at the Olympics. I am finding her very patronising and at times completely over the top" Calm down Clare for Gods sake , I know you are fully behind our competitors but going on and bloody on about that French swimmer ; yes we all know he is something special . Her reaction to Adam Peaty’s silver medal swim and all the bloody brouhaha about his personal troubles I found very annoying . He lost, he won a great Silver no need to go on and on . Sorry Clare , you are better than this . I suppose it could be worse , she could have been commenting on the equestrian event. I shudder to think how that would have gone. Rant over.

You can't say that Kenwood she's a national treasure 😉

Yeah, and I’ll tell you who else is fast becoming a national treasure , bloody Clive Myrie. He’s on absolutely everything I’m surprised he’s not about to pop up in the pool. If that were to happen ( and I know there’s absolutely no chance 😉) I’m sure Balding would bloody explode 😂😂.

In my opinion it would be fantastic to see Clive Myrie competing in the modern pentathlon.

If we’re discussing the performance of the BBC presenters at the Olympics, I like to add my admiration for the lady presenter who works alongside Sir Matthew Pinsent. That guy has worn the same shirt since last weekend, when the rowing and canoeing began .He must smell worse than the Seine. Chapeau to the lady.

Dear old Claire, she does love rambling. She must now be favourite to lead on the next big state occasion. Is she having to fill up the time now so much has gone to pay to view? Anyway, could be worse, it could be Allison Hammond.

Whilst the personal stories of athletes taking part is all part of the Olympics the BBC do seem to have focused a bit too much on some individuals this time around, and a bit more technical details on the sports would be good. They captured the Yee triathlon and women’s rowing golds this morning really well today though
Genuinely (I know timing is very iffy) laid up with Covid at the moment so invested in the Discovery plus option which is showing all the sports. Their coverage has been very good especially the round up shows at the end of the day.
As they cater for a world wide audience you get a better overall view of the key events of the day. Really enjoyed the archery and volleyball today - epic match between USA and Serbia which ebbed and flowed and had great characters on the sidelines.

Changing the subject slightly I note that you are laid up with COVID . Sorry to heat that , I am told that it is becoming more prevalent and we may have to undergo another “ pandemic” during the Winter months. Tell me is your bout of COVID your first or , if not is it as debilitating as before . I get the impression that we have become a tiny bit blasé about COVID and should be more aware that it has not gone away. I have seen quite a few people wearing masks recently though and you are certainly not an isolated case if you like , a few of my friends have told me that they have COVID and have been surprised as they have been inoculated up to the hilt due to their age . Maybe with people attending the Summer sporting events and the football season soon to begin perhaps it’s time to think again about our protection and, of course , others . Or should we now treat it similar to flu .

Switch to eurosport where the focus is on the coverage of the sport and not the various analysts employed to talk about the sport.

Settle down Grizzly . My post was simply to ask about his bout of COVID . It wasn’t intended to be another serial COVID thread , it was to satisfy my own curiosity . Mods can move it if they so wish , I have no desire to enter into an argument about the trials and tribulations of COVID . That’s done and dusted as far as I’m concerned Z. Yeah, continue if people wish to comment on Ms Balding et al which was the original thread posted by my good self. Enough said , I’m off to bugger about in the garden enjoying this spell of good weather - May it continue for a while yet . I’ve heard it keeps .COVID away 😉😂😉 Sorry , couldn’t resist but seriously I have no objection if it were removed. Enjoy the rest of the day .👍

The two doing the rowing coverage ( not looked for their names) are appallingly dressed. I think they're dressed by charity shop leftovers that have being boiled for 3 hours and tumble dried within an inch of their life. Not a good look .

Katharine Grainger is one of those very annoying/impressive people who seem to be able to turn their hand to anything. Alongside a long and successful Olympic rowing career she also has a PHD is philosophy, Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University and current head of UK sport. But also throws in being a very good tv presenter too.
Find Matthew Pinsett doesn't really add much detail to the commentary, but Grainger gives a good insite to the average viewer of how things work in rowing and what expectations the teams have. Its always good when a presenter can highlight things you don't notice as the average viewer

He's got lots of the same shirt? It helps with continuity. If not, I'm sure she'll soon be buying him some😀

The BMX commentators are the best/worst (delete according to taste).
"Criterii - it's the plural of criteria" is a classic for the ages.

I think the best BBC commentary team is yet to come, roll on the athletics.
I always like listening to Michael Johnson, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Paula Radcliffe, Denise Lewis & Colin Jackson.

Surely Mathew Pinsent rates as the most boring monosybolic commentators. Awful.

If that were to happen ( and I know there’s absolutely no chance 😉) I’m sure Balding would bloody explode 😂😂. Clive Myrie is a good newsreader and does a decent job with Mastermind but he was poor on Election night - a lot of umming and ahhing. Not a patch on Dimbleby (or Kuenssberg , for that matter). Without a script/autocue he is far from the best available on the BBC. I’m also unsure why he was shoehorned into the Proms coverage when Katie Derham and others were doing a good job. Definitely a case of the ‘face of the moment’, regardless of whether that person is really suited to a particular role.

I like Myrie and as you say he is a good newsreader and does a decent job on Mastermind . Perhaps he’s been placed in certain positions which are beyond his capabilities at the moment . Katie Derham is very good introducing the Proms but fair play to Clive he does have a background I believe in classical music. Like you I thought he was poor on election night . Sorry Clive , your doing too much too soon .

Finding the rowing commentators (not Pinsent and Grainger) a bit annoying -
"It's about how much they want this!!"
No it isn't.

I don’t know how the experts manage Claire Balding. She doesn’t give the experts a chance. All the statistics the historyonnics all the experts can say is why are we here.
