A few years back i worked in the black country based in Tipton, everybody raved about orange chips. I tried some from Dudley Port. They really are nice.some special ingredients that seems local.I made a special journey to that shop on many occasion, anyone else sampled these? I just googled orange chips and Tipton, I need to try those out at some point, cheers
anyway back to original post, I love Saveloy and Chips, but anywhere around either the north east lincolnshire way or here in the north west theyve never even heard of a saveloy, or battered mushrooms or orange chips. The Rainbow Fish Bar in Darlaston used to be an awesome place for all 3 of those scrummy delights

Yes, got them when I asked for chips at Wednesfield. Quite a surprise, ok, but too many to eat. ( I get all those W place names mixed up), the one that's a short walk after a swim at Bentley Bridge.
There's also a notable chippy in Bilston, top of the street, opposite a ropey looking pub, forget the name, but renowned in those parts. At the opposite end of the main street to McDonalds ironically.

Best chips I've ever had were not from the UK but from a small take away in De Haan, Belgium. They were chunky chips for sure! I was weaned on Belgian chips, my late Mum was Belgian and we spent all our long summer holidays there. They grow a variety of potato thatβs only used for chips which are triple fried at any good frituur. The custom in Mumβs home town , Geraardsbergen, is to have piccalilli with the chips.

Either fish, chips and mushy peas or jumbo sausage, chips and curry sauce from The Old Victorian Fryer in Wrockwardine Wood, aka Percy Deans.
Best chips I've ever had however were from a little back street in Dubrovnik. Apparently they soak the chips over night in sugar water, they were amazing.

Simple cod and chips with lashings of salt and vinegar does it for me; I loathe mushy peas!
As for my best ever fish and chips meal, it was at King's Lynn, watching Town win there in 1969, I think...FA Cup.
Whitby also excellent, only a couple of years ago!

Yes Victorian Fryer is always good, I've been going since the old days of Percy Dean's. Just back from Dubrovnik, guess you are talking of the Old Town? We didnt eat in there.

But I also hate vinegar as well, and too much salt (I usually get them from the shop without either and just add my own small amount myself). And sorry to make you feel old but Kings Lynn was 1964....

Sorry armchair but I love mushy peas . Cod, chips , mushy peas and bread and butter . HP sauce , salt , vinegar and a mug of builders tea . Heaven. Sometimes I used to include sliced beetroot as an extra . Years ago I remember my mum soaking peas overnight in water with a tab of bicarb . They were the original mushy peas and not so fluorescent green as they are now . Happy days and yes, excellent choice of fish and chip restaurants in Whitby , all claiming to be the worlds best . Best fish and chip shop in Town in my opinion used to be on Monkmoor Road just over the bridge by Tankerville Street .Always excellent .

Last year I went to a chippy in Upton, Lincolnshire which is one of the last (if not the last) coal fired chippy's. They only open Friday nights & Saturday lunchtimes and are clearly very popular as people had driven from quite a distance to get there and I ended up queuing for an hour
They were very good, whether they were worth spending an hour in a queue for I'm not so sure!

We used to have a caravan sites near Corwen and used the chippy there regularly. It was all cooked to order, so a good 10-15 minute wait at busy times. Very well worth waiting for though.
Was about 12 years ago since we were there now though.

Fish, Chips with ideally Mushy Peas, gravy and Curry Sauce and a jumbo sausage on the side.
Would always depends on getting it with others though, as all of it but indulgent for 1!

Pound to a penny that back then they where fried in lardπ For the young 'uns on here ,the difference in taste was amazing. Then all of a sudden we got told that lard was extremely bad for us and all the chippies seemed to stop using it overnight Now apparently it's not too bad for us and TV chefs are using it again. So I'm sat here with my lard cooked fish & chips & a doorstep of bread and butter. I've got 20 Rothmans King Size on the side with a bottle of scotch to wash it down with and more bread and dripping if I'm still hungry later on πππ...happy days

Are the fish and chips at Blists Hill fried in lard? Lots of people say they are amazing. I was all set to give them a try last summer but just wasnt hungry enough all the time I was there.

Chips and curry sauce with salt and vinegar Add bread and butter and further salt and vinegar a few minutes later once we get home. Leave the fish to swim happily in the sea.

Have to say I had a very pleasant fish and chips in Barmouth on Sunday.
Our usual one down by the station was heaving with queues down and along the road so went into the Town and got one from the Carousel chippy. Very nice light batter on the fish and the chips were very tasty and not too filling either. Felt just nicely full without feeling stuffed.
Had issues with the parking machines though, today a company had removed Β£59.99 from the account we used to pay for the parking. Anyone else had any issues with their ticket machines? Would be interested to hear from you if so.
