Always a decent hardworking player. Been jealous of clubs with him before. Didn't Portsmouth pay a million for him after he looked the absolute dogs at Doncaster?
Lots of experience at this level.
I am amazed we could afford him - presumably that's Udoh's offer gone to someone else.
I hope his legs haven't gone.

I’m very undecided about this. What you could never question in Bowman was his ability in front of goal, his instincts etc.
Issue was his mobility and desire towards the end and rightly was let go.
Marquis is no doubt a great finisher and more proven than Bowman in terms of goal return, but is he any more mobile than Bowman now he’s 32……who knows we shall see.

The announcement videos are making me smile a little more than the actual signings are at the moment.
Recent scoring record on a par with Bowman, and that’s at teams that are no doubt far more creative than we are and will be.
Nevertheless, wish him all the best.

Hope this isn’t the striker that we’re supposed to be excited about put it that way. Reckon we could have a big name signing now that we’re getting that extra bit of tv money from the US that got announced yesterday?

Proven at this level, experienced, scores goals at every club he's been at...exactly the sort of player who invariably turns out to be an absolute turkey for us.
Hope to be wrong.

Generally impressed by this one, when seeing him play always thought he make a good signing and surprised he's come to Salop.
I guess more a Bowman replacement than Udoh, perhaps Lloyd will be off the right as well.
The only thing is it doesn't feel a Hurst or Moore signing.

Marquee signing = Marquis
This guy will be on a fair dollar...glad it's two years and not just the one. If he has a wonder season we can sell 💰

Stick Humohrys or McAtte alongside him and we’ll soon be saying Daniel who?

Sometimes people are forced into making decisions which they wouldn’t usually make - and they turn out to be just what is needed. Im very pleased with this , like you when seeing him play always thought he’d make a good signing .

Considering the clubs financial position this looks a surprisingly positive signing. Back in 2018/19 he looked really good for Doncaster getting 20 plus goals in a season twice and expected him to go onto bigger and better things. Admittedly it does seem his recent career has been less impressive in terms of goals, but certainly knows league one well and around 100 goals at this level is not to be sniffed at.
Obviously every chance the town striker curse will kick in, but would hope his experience will help younger players in the squad and form a target point for other forward players to work round

With his age and whatnot I think we should be playing him as a poacher. Then we just gotta get deliveries in the box for him. The likes of Winchester, Biggins and co are perfectly capable of supplying that service. Im excited now...IMO Marquis is a big step up from Udoh

A nice little two year earner for him at the end of his league career. Good luck to him. He knows where the net is if we can give him the service. Hopefully will do better than Jamie Cureton who came to us as a goal scorer a few years ago.

On one hand an experienced signing who will lead the line but, not a negative but more an observation, what's happened in terms of our stated aim of signing hungry young players?

Not what I expected but pretty happy with that. Fits how Hurst likes to play - gives the front line a focal point and a striker to p**s defenders off. He won't play every minute but definitely provides something different to the squad.
Some obvious reservations, but he's signing for town so there is always going to be some.
Comparisons with Bowman and that they are the same aren't fair. Marquis has a much better record by every metric I can see
Welcome John 👍

Literally all of our other signings have been young: Hoole, Lloyd, Savin, and the lad from Villa. We obviously need a few experienced pros in the squad.

I want to be more positive but what he did years ago, in his mid 20s at the height of his powers bares little relevance.
In league one of recent years he’s 4 in 35 last year, 9 in 36 in 22/23, 9 in 39 in 21/22. 16 in 41 for Pompey in 20/21.
Be very positively surprised if he gets to double figures.

Welcome John. I've followed his career for years. Really pleased with that. What the hell do you expect? I didn't think we'd get an experienced front man in. He knows his way around a football field. Only just 32, hard working player who can hold the ball up.
I should have expected some moaning. Even if we'd signed Mbappe, I'll bet some Juan would have had a grizzle.

More of a focal point/link-up player than a goalscorer isn’t he? I’d expect him to play in a similar style to how Carlton Morris did for us.

On one hand an experienced signing who will lead the line but, not a negative but more an observation, what's happened in terms of our stated aim of signing hungry young players? That's gone out of the window as we csnt afford the risk of young players with less ability but with potential.

Could prove to be a good signing. It’s starting to look interesting. Can’t wait to see the new lads in action tomorrow. COYB.
