As mentioned on another thread it would be great to hear your memories of the days we played in the Welsh Cup. Of course it wasnt the be all and end all of the season but some different teams to play against abd a trophy to aim to win.
What are your memories of them? I'm a bit busy for the next few days but I'll put some of mine on after the weekend, in the meantime fire away with yours.

Beating Wrexham in the final back in 1979.
Nearly 9k at the Gay Meadow for the 2nd leg.
Going to Farrar Road, Bangor to watch us win it again in 1985. (back to back final wins, beat Wrexham the season before).
As an aside, having a great time watching the exploits of my local village club, Towyn FC in the competition during the 70s/early 80s.

Connahs Quay Nomads away on a Wednesday afternoon at their old ground. crowd of 1000, we fielded a very strong side and managed a 1-0 win.
Bethesda Athletic at Bangor's ground on a very wet night. Game shouldn't have finished but we basically told Referee game had to finish. Most of opponents shared three surnames.

1980. We were runners up to Newport County. Two leg final. Went to second leg and we lost 3.0 at the Meadow. If I remember rightly there was a crowd of nearly 10.000. Remember being as disappointed as I have ever been at a town defeat as the Welsh Cup was quite a big deal for town fans after winning it the year before against Swansea.

Beating Cefn Albion 10-0 at home. Should have been 11 but Referee blew just before Mark Kelly's shot went in. There was still over a minute and a half to play. Would have been his first senior goal.

Also remember one season where the " draw" was fixed. There were three English sides left in the last 16. I correctly predicted the draws for last 16, quarter finals and semi finals. This ensured a Welsh side got to the Final so they would have a Cup Winners cup entry

Sorry it was Wrexham we beat in the 1979 final. I think Swansea was a semi final win on penalties in 79 or 80.

Beat Llanidloes 9-0 one evening game in early 70’s.
Also remember a semi- final home to Cardiff during three day week and played on weekday afternoon, maybe 4pm kick off. I went after games afternoon from Priory Boys.

Beating Welshpool Town 5-0 Ricky Marlowe scored we were stood on the Station End 1973/74 It was
And a night game against Oswestry Town, the game only just happened because of dense fog, didn't matter where you moved to stand you could only see about 60% of the pitch.
And as I said earlier Town hoofing a Penalty in a shootout over the wall at the Wakeman End

Playing against a Welsh side at home when you could get your Ipswich tickets too, it put a few thousand on the gate. Beating Rhyl 3 nil on a Saturday where we didn't have a league opponent because of the FA Cup. No more than 600 there

Game shouldn't have finished but we basically told Referee game had to finish. Most of opponents shared three surnames. Think I was standing with you at their old ground, basically a field with ropes around it to keep the 'crowd' back. Dave Armitage (Shropshire Star reporter who I went to school with) was standing with us. He asked me what I thought the attendance was, I looked around and guessed at 500. That became the 'official' attendance in the match report. As you say we just about managed to avoid a bullet at this game.

I may have dreamt it but im sure I remember a game in the early 80s where over 6000+ turned up to watch town play a side I've never heard of, town were selling tickets for possibly one of the Ipswich cup games inside the ground , it was apparently life changing for the opposition or whatever the football club equivalent is
I think I also attended part of the Cefn Albion game too, there was a game I presume that one that me and my mate started to hear goal flashes maybe on radio Shropshire ? again I may have dreamed this up, but there was a goal flurry early on and we decided to run to the ground and see what we could see, this from the grange, cant honestly remember if we saw any goals but we did get there and saw the last 10/15 mins when the gate opened
I defiantly remember seeing my first penalty shootout when town won the cup in 79? but cant remember if it was wrexham or Swansea or the semi or final
it was annoying the way town finally exited the cup for good, we beat canarfon town 2-0 and they put a complaint in for us fielding an illegible player, the player was Ron green who had played for us for months but we had had his loan extended, they booted us out on a technicality, and town who had helped numerous village sides become financially ok for years basically said f you Wales and never entered again

Weve played Bangor City in the 2 legged final of 84/5 as mentioned in an earlier post, winning 3-1 at Home on a Tuesday night after the final league games of the season (Tester with 2, and Hackett) Think that game was nearly postponed due to a downpour and the pitch was being dredged with massive brooms as the players were trying to warm up. The second leg was played on the sunday up at Bangor, we won 2-0 (Maclaren and Stevens) (5-1) on aggregate to retain the trophy on our side of the border (after beating Wrexham in the final the previous season) which I beleive was shown on Welsh tv.
I had been to their old Farrah Road ground before for the 5th Rd meeting in 81/2 where we lost 2-1 (Tong). Remember the natives had a group of Neanderthals who spent much of the game intimidating us for daring to enter the competition from over the border. Sure I saw Owain Glendower amongst them!
Previous to that (and before my time of going to games) was in 77/78 when we lost 4-2 (Turner and Loughnane) in North Wales. Anyone remember the controversy over that game??? I only ready about it but remember it rumbled on for a few days and the Welsh FA werent going to budge as it was one of their teams that had gone through....
Only other time weve played them (since re entering in 1973) was in 74/5 when we drew 1-1 (Hayward) at home before winning the replay 1-0 away (Bates).
Anyone got memories of these games?
Will add some more later.

Remember going to Courtaulds Greenfield (or something like that) midweek day kick off (they didn’t have floodlights if I remember correctly) can’t remember much about game or result but we won but not by a great margin, remember drinking in their club house but that’s about it.

Went to games at Kidderminster Harriers (before they were a league team) and Worcester City. Shows how many English teams were involved. Just looking back and the following English clubs were all involved in 1978/79: Shrewsbury Town Worcester City Kidderminster Harriers Chester Oswestry Town Bridgnorth Town Brierley Hill Alliance Stourbridge 3 of the 4 clubs in the semi final were from England! Not long after Hereford Utd also entered the competition.

Referee blew for full time approx 10 minutes early. Correct. A Welsh ref obviously, and I think Town were just starting to look like pulling a goal or two back after a less than decent first hour. The ref put paid to that....

So there were several thousand watching the first half (by which time Town were winning comfortably). Once most had bought their tickets they retired to the pub or gone home and the attendance was probably only the usual few hundred near the end of the game.
