Some serious competition, but boys and girls, I give you - P P Arnold.
Her version of The Fust Cut Is The Deepest, where her drawl of, " Am sure gonna give ya a tra" makes my toes curl.

PP Arnold is magnificent. Seen her twice and been blown away. Her version of the Mike Nesmith song different drum is a great version. But for me the greatest female singer who interpreted songs was Dusty Springfield

A vote for Grace Slick here. White Rabbit at Woodstock has to be one of the most iconic performances of the era.

All terrific voices, if I had to choose a top 3 it’s Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Janis Joplin.

I would, again, put Karen Carpenter - the only one I saw "live" - top of my list, followed by Dusty Springfield; to a certain degree, I think that our personal choices are influenced by our age...
O/T, I know, but has there ever been, and is there ever likely to be, a male vocalist to match the great Francis Albert Sinatra? A man who not only sung great songs, but who BECAME the songs....and owned them....incomparable....

Linda Ronstadt. Her range was incredible; rock, country, folk, light opera. She could do it all.

I used to have a playlist on Apple , top 100 Female , spent months adding songs to it but before I actually put them in order I unsubscribed , recently signed back up and realised they conveniently delete them now If you leave
I like powerful voices , I think Annie Lennox , karen carpenter , Olivia newton john , Tina turner , Chrissie hyne , toyah , hazel O'Connor , lady gaga , Amy winehouse would all have been up there

I'm not entirely sure whether allegedly "having someone murdered" has anything to do with being a great vocalist, but each to his own, I suppose!
