(Best played LOUD)
Is it time for a Salop one?

The 11 on the pitch last night weren’t postmen because they couldn’t deliver.

I recently got a card from my daughter in Folkestone that took 10 days - with a 1st class stamp! Too many Scottish postmen around here!

The lack of deliveries is a common complaint in our neck of the woods too. Problem being in a rural community I suppose. There is talk that our local delivery office is to close and daily deliveries will then come from Crewe, an extra 18 miles away.

Too many Scottish postmen around here! in 2005 Royal Mails 350 year monopoly on delivering mail was ended, this was the beginning of the end as Royal Mail still have to deliver that 3rd party from the likes of Whistl, UK Mail and many more, how often do people see a postage stamp these days ? no wonder the price has been hiked and resources cut whilst others cherry pick, cant remember who was in charge of the country back then but hey ho (it might come back to bite them on the arse pretty soon as the company continues to fall apart )

Junk mail, everything else paperless. Occasional legal document can be couriered….or collect it from your local ‘locker’ 👍 Soon be a thing of the past a bit like milkmen….

Me neither but so long as we get our postal votes before next weekend! so you need Royal Mail to deliver your postal vote and then pop along a pick it up from the box and then deliver it again amazing how much you really need them when you think about it ;-)

I'm only having a postal vote as I shall be away on polling day.

Still a milkman comes down our street every day, approx 00.15 am 6 days per week without fail. Not sure how many he delivers to but I doubt it's more than 1 household given the time before he is coming back.

My household recently started using a milkman again after decades of not. Living out in the sticks, it's handy for us and tastes much fresher than milk from supermarkets. We never run out because the regular order can be amended easily and at short notice. It is pricey mind, but i suppose we are saving not having to drive the car 30mins to the shops and back just to get milk. Edwards Dairies.
Back on topic, royal mail are a top courier service. I deal with them all at my work, from tiny one-day couriers to the big international shippers, and RM are right up there for pricing and service.

Personally I’m a big supporter of RM . A really good service all told but I do wish our local postman would stop dropping rubber bands on my drive . I will have a word when I remember / when I see him . It’s just so bloody annoying when he passes wheelie bins to get to our letter box, put the things in there . Overall though a good service . I like letter / postcard writing . Old school no doubt but so much more personal than e Mail etc . Trouble is stamps are so expensive but bugger it, it’s something I enjoy doing . If more people had continued writing letters and posting them perhaps the cost of stamps wouldn’t have gone up . Perhaps someone😉could tell me whether the cost of the advertising literature etc pushed through my letterbox almost daily from private health insurance, pizza adverts , fashion , cars , glazing , insulation and good knows what are charged to the originators at the same rate as a second class stamp per item. I doubt it because of the sheer volume of the s**te attracting favourable discounts . How does the system work ? I feel sorry for the postmen / women battling wind/ rain and dogs to deliver rubbish but I realise it’s what keeps them in work but ohh would I be tempted to bin the lot.😂😂😳

Sounds like ‘the good old days’…..I still see my parents milkman, in Shrewsbury well his son still delivering with his old mum sat next to him… can’t remember their name. Just came to me Morgan’s
Remember mobile shops used to turn up on certain days, Paddy’s in a converted removal van (had a shop in B Hill later) then there was Cross the green grocer, one we called the Hovis man, the Corona lorry and Sidoli’s ice cream but delivered cakes on a Saturday morning.
Now we’ve got Deliveroo and Amazon although I use the later almost daily.

You’ve missed out the Esso Blue man , mobile fish and chip shop , Matthew’s travelling veg shop, the pig swill collection “service “ and I’m sure a fair few more . Of course in those “ good old days “ not many had cars and so rather than travel to shop “ shops” came to the people . Things have changed for the better no doubt . Nothing like indulging in a spot of nostalgia .😉
