That Telford United went bust and KFC formed in their place. Trying to keep up with Shropshire's premier club was sadly beyond them without going into financial oblivion. At least they'll always have that one season where they beat us a couple of times, a season that ended with us getting promoted and them being liquidated. 

With the demise of the Shropshire Senior Cup it's difficult to envisage us ever playing them competitively again. 

Twenty years, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the STFC. Cheers!

Ah, the No1 club in Shropshire.

Possibly not the No1 club in Telford these days.

Due to their famous playoff victory at Anstey Nomads (and after reaching the playoffs despite being docked six points during the regular season for fielding an ineligible player) in the Northern Premier League Midlands division my very local team the mighty Harborough Town FC (aka The Bees) will play in the Southern Premier League Central next season. That is the division where Telford will continue to play next season after their recent playoff final defeat against Leamington. If Salop are not at home that day I will stroll along to the Harborough 'stadium' when Telford play there and pay my £12 to see this much-awaited encounter. As someone who is Ironbridge born and bred but has lived in Market Harborough for a quarter of a century my loyalties may well be divided but with average crowds of only a few hundred I dont think Harborough have an away end so at least I will not have to make that choice at the gate,

I used to quite like Telford being the relatively friendly non league club down the road.

We loaned them younger players.

You used to see several town fans at their games when Shrewsbury were away at Gillingham or whatever.

Likewise with their FA Trophy Wembley trips and big cup games.

I remember it getting a bit rougher. We had bricks and masonry thrown at us on the old terrace of the bucks head in a SSC final.

Then Andy Shaw came, Radio Shropshire was taken over by this "two clubs in Shropshire" narrative. It was as brash as it was nonsensical. Shrewsbury at their lowest point for 75 years, Telford spending money they didn't have on players they couldn't afford.

I don't think the Lee Carter/plucky AFC thing did it any good when the restarted either.

I've only been to Telford as an away fan since.

The banner on the bridge wasn't an isolated incident, it was part of an overall change in attitude and relationship between the two clubs.

I never thought I'd spend an afternoon glued to the radio supporting Leamington but there you go. If they wanted to imagine and create some sort of rivalry then they got their wish.

The fact a player they lost due to going bust scored the penalty that put us back in the league was just beautiful.

same player we signed on the basis we didn't play him in the upcoming game against them,   we promptly did,  and they beat us with Sam Ricketts scoring the winner

Allegedly.

Came in for some rough treatment that night did Challis.

Dont think there is any doubt who had the last laughter though. Then who won a 90 minute game and then what they have suffered for the last 20 years, or us who got back into the FL (however fortuitously) and then stagnated for the last 10 years at a level higher. Know which one I'd take every time.
