I have been a Town fan since the 50s and every season I look forward with optimism to the approaching kick-off. I have never aimed by expectations at finishing anywhere in or just above the bottom 6. OK, my sights may become lower in October once reality sets in but even then, when things are p going wrong for McNeil, Freddie, Peters, Mellon, Askey, Ricketts, Taylor and many others, I still persuade myself that things can be fixed. Hurst has proved before that we can be competitive in this league, just as we proved through the 80s that we could remain and even succeed at Level 2 despite being favourites for the drop every season. Every season, sides who have similar resources to us manage to finish between 9th and 15th, positions of mid-table security. Ask any fan of those clubs what they want from the following season and the majority would suggest a play-off push. Why should we accept less?

Agreed. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be next seasons Lincoln, Stevenage, Orient or Northampton without risking our long term stability.

Only time will tell whether or not his second spell here's a success, I'd give him a cautiously positive pass for his work in the back end of 2023/24 season but it'll be this one where we can probably judge.
What's definitely clear is that he's an excellent interviewee - realistic without being dour, and raising some interesting points, while not resorting to the cliche that so many in football do now. The thought of listening to some of our recent managers interviewed for half an hour would have caused a sense of existential dread in me, but despite the not massively upbeat tone of the interview I quite enjoyed that one.

Agreed. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be next seasons Lincoln, Stevenage, Orient or Northampton without risking our long term stability. That is correct, it will take a relatively small improvement to get to where they were the season just finished. However it would also be only a small drop from where we finished to also become next seasons Cheltenham, Fleetwood or Vale. Fine margins, let's just hope PH can improve us rather than going the other way.

Indeed. I don't know who coined that phrase (and to be honest I couldn't care less) but, at the end of the day it doesn't belong on the board full stop.

Agreed. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be next seasons Lincoln, Stevenage, Orient or Northampton without risking our long term stability. Whilst I agree we should be aiming higher and not just accepting survival in L1 as success, the sad reality is those clubs will have bigger ambitions than us because of the financial position we find ourselves in. I see us as now in the same position as when Roland took over, the focus is on reducing losses/debt and trying to survive in the league as cheaply as possible

I assume that Pilch has decided to hijack the thread due to me posting that some of our fans view success as surviving. Hardly a slur on our fanbase more a fact, and one I thoroughly believe in.

I always thought alternative views were allowed on here. Reasoned debate is one thing, belittling fellow fans by saying they are anti is another.
I’m not keen on the management at the moment but I want my team to succeed. I’m not sure whether that makes me anti anything or not but it’s how I am.

I’ll do that when you prove Marosi was on £6k a week I can't prove it , but I was told it and told exactly how , having redone the maths I said yesterday he was no longer on 6k but still averaged over 5k during his 3 seasons Here's something I can say If you are labelling people as "town fans" and having a pop at them for how they choose to support the club then expect a response Your turn

Especially as the ‘management’ seem to be gong in with a very negative outlook, Hurst sounded like he’s getting all his excuses in early yet SC got criticised by some for talking reality on squad depth resources in comparison with the bigger clubs in the league (accused of putting pressure on RW and playing to the fans). Seems we’re now being conditioned to fail? Hopefully good news will start to filter though fairly soon.

Which is more the reason why some fans are just happy that we actually have a football club , we all want success but we all know this season is going to be a monumental struggle , would you be happier if hurst suggested it's going to be free flowing football and we'll be have a few landslide wins ? We can all pretend we are heading for a promotion push but I like to be more realistic with things in life , it saves a lot of disappointment later , I predicted 2017 would be a struggle , what refreshing surprise that season was , still ended In disappointment though , But If someone wants to criticise fellow town fans for any reason please say why it's detrimental to the club or expect a counter challenge probing why they are being anti towards those fans

That's one view, fair enough, but my goodness what a low benchmark that is at the end of the day.

I’ll keep an eye open for anyone criticising any poster (rule 19) 👍

It might be a low benchmark but how much higher do you seriously expect us you climb above it this season ? All town fans start the season with hope some are just more realistic than other And let's not forget this "existence" jibe was just the exaggeration of someone else who decided to have a pop a certain fans and clearly didn't want an objection to it ,

There are some of our fans who are simply happy to have a football club to support and see it as a success that we haven't gone the same way as Telford, Wrexham, Hereford, Chester, etc. I'm not sure why that's controversial or seen as a jibe.
