Interesting article on Elphicke and her ex husband, sadly behind a pay wall. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/charlie-elphicke-the-predator-mp-and-his-protection-racket-3kb30pl6wWith her far right credentials, she'd surely have been an ideal M.P. to defect to the Reform Party, which would then have allowed her to join Lee Anderson in the House of Commons. Reflecting on her defection, Steve Baker, the Minister of State, Northern Ireland, commented on Twitter: "I have been searching in vain for a Conservative MP who thinks themselves to the right of Natalie Elphicke. One just quipped, 'I didn’t realise there was any room to her right.'" Left-wing group Momentum said that Elphicke should have "no place in a Labour Party committed to progressive values and working-class people". Wiki. www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/may/08/the-controversies-of-natalie-elphicke-the-mp-who-has-defected-to-labourElphicke, who has become Labour’s newest MP after her shock defection from the Conservatives, has a track record that places her firmly on the right of British politics.

Starmer has made a mistake taking her in - I completely agree that Reform party would have been a better home for her.

She maybe had a Road to Damascus moment Yeah, a 24 hours conversion it would seem. 'Natalie Elphicke sent a campaign leaflet to her constituents on Tuesday, the day before her defection to Labour, criticising her new party, according to reports. The Dover MP reportedly sent a Conservative Party leaflet out earlier this week which warned of going “back to square one” if Labour wins power. The leaflet, first reported on by The Times, warned a Labour government would result in a “weaker economy, unfunded spending, higher mortgage rates”. The leaflet, which featured numerous photographs of Ms Elphicke, also suggested Labour was in favour of “uncontrolled immigration”.' Daily Telegraph.

Natural fit, no principles, stands and pretends to have one set of views and values before ditching them to gain advantages if the opportunity arises . Looking at what she has done and the actions of Starmer at the last general election and the Labour leadership election, they are perfectly matched.
“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

No doubt reading Tuesday's leaflet, almost certainly a Conservative central party initiative, she realised the error of her ways.
She's certainly right about the "broken promises of Rishi Sunak's tired and chaotic government".

Maybe Starmer and his followers welcome her, but to most in the party she's about as welcome as a French kiss at a family reunion.

Is there anything that Stammer won't do to gain power? Who next, Farage, Tommy Robinson who knows!
A dangerous man with no morals or principles.Yet a true socialist like Diane Abbott is chucked out of the party for a silly comment she regrets.
I am deeply concerned about what Stammer would do in power with no checks on his ambitions.
I am increasingly thinking that a hung parliament, with the Lib Dems would be the best option

www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/may/11/conservative-defector-labour-natalie-elphicke-dover-mp-housing-jobTory defector Natalie Elphicke stormed out of the party and joined Labour because she was “bitter” about being denied a ministerial job in charge of housing policy, senior Conservative sources have told the Observer. It is understood that Elphicke was considered for a government job first by Liz Truss when she became prime minister in 2022 but was not in the end given a post. Elphicke then made clear her ambition to become a minister under Rishi Sunak, but again was unsuccessful. A cabinet source said Elphicke was enraged at being rejected: “I know she is very bitter about the fact she was not made a minister. She wants to be housing minister and she is bitter about it.” Admittedly, this rumour has come from Tory sources, but the response from Labour does nothing to counter it. Plus Starmer has now given her an unpaid role advising on housing policy! 'Asked whether the Labour party had known that Elphicke had been refused a job in government and that it might have been as a result of her connections with her husband, a spokesman said it was “not getting into processology”'.
