Not only was he outstanding today with Udoh in his pocket for most the game, he also joins a fairly small band of ex Salop players who don't just get a clap from the home support but they actually get a chant.
I also see that he has now been elected by his fellow professionals as the PFA Chair.
That is the kind of leadership any football club needs. It is what we have missed this season without Leahy.
And when we go signing players in the summer I hope we sign a real leader. Someone everyone else respects and slightly fears.
I am thinking I heard chants for Dave Edwards, Ryan Woods, Jon Taylor, who else actually got the home fans singing when they came back as an away player?

It was a nice moment when Beckles got substituted (not just the mutual respect between Player and Fan but also because Udoh got more chances afterwards).
Very similar to Leahy a couple of weeks ago.

Beckles is the only player who could wrestle Dunkley to the ground, hold him there and then get a free kick in his favour as well.

There could have been one for Matty Harold yesterday but we’re not allowed 🚫

I think the fact he got a chant when he was subbed off yesterday was more because of how bored and disengaged the fans were with the actual game. A highly respected figure but he’s not a legend or even close, nothing more than a decent past player.

I think it could also be that he is respected for his actions off the pitch as well. He’s a player who isn’t just a footballer but uses his other time in worthwhile causes.
Someone to be admired.

He's learnt to defend on top of his pace and physicality. He was very good yesterday. I wonder whether he fancies linking up with Pierre.

Omar was solid yesterday.
Also, I had a good view on the duals he had with Dunkley. All correct decisions, Dunkley (like he often does) all over defenders at set pieces.
Beckles looked very comfortable yesterday

A highly respected figure but he’s not a legend or even close, nothing more than a decent past player. Probably a fair assessment of his on-pitch performance objectively, although anyone featuring in that season gets huge bonus points and rightly so. He did get into the L1 team of the year in our best season in living memory and play with us for three seasons, in the context of modern football and us since our move to the new ground I'm struggling outside of Whalley to think of many who've got a better claim But a player's popularity isn't always just down to their performances on the pitch, and Omar's openness about his mental health, his all-round good guy status, his work with the PFA, and even the Grenada connection and the fact he had a decent chant all contributed to his popularity and status, and rightly so. He's done really well to carve out a solid football league career after being non-league til he was 25, again shades of Whalley there. Delighted to see him doing well at a club closer to home for him.

The work he's done off the pitch makes him much more than that.

I certainly didn’t indulge in that god awful chant of his, infact didn’t even clap him, no need

Seem to remember Beckles getting in the team of the year that season coming as a shock to everyone.
A decent servant but no more or less than that for me.
Deserved his warm reception.
