Simple solution. Get rid of VAR which is ruining the game and leave the decisions to the on field referee with analysis then by fans in the pub afterwards. It worked for many many years.

After seeing the statement I was expecting to see three stone-wallers not given, but for me they were all 50-50 at best. With three in one game you’d expect on probability to get one, but for an official statement to infer cheating is very dangerous for the reputation of the club and the game. I’m not surprised though from Forest, they cried like babies when the referee dealt with a drop ball wrong and they conceded two whole minutes later.

All decisions were made on field, just confirmed by VAR. The big question really is why Atwell was involved, especially after NFs objection? Sort of a bit of previous for bias by instinct….. Attwell hails from Nuneaton but is a Luton Town fan. Understandably, he has never officiated a Luton game but did make headlines in 2008 when he awarded a goal for Reading against their bitter rivals Watford despite the ball crossing the line outside the back post.

VAR is little short of a cancer on the game at this point - and I was a previous supporter of bringing in technology to the game, I was wrong, it's ruined it...
As well as Forest's bizarre and stupid statement, just look at the mess it made at Wembley too ruining one of the greatest moments in the FA Cup's history, putting the defenders line over Wan-Bissaka's foot to make the Coventry player 'offside', scandalous robbery

The standard of referees we have been inflicted with this season makes you wish for VAR in League One just to make a modicum of difference

I think it comes down to the fact that owners/clubs literally cannot take losing. They used to blame refs. Now they blame VAR even though most decisions are analysed and correct albeit an occasional huge mistake. Whatever they use, teams/clubs will complain - end of. There’s no solution but putting out an official statement suggesting there is something sinister going on is a dangerous precedent. They knew Atwell was a Luton fan before the game I assume?

The standard of referees we have been inflicted with this season makes you wish for VAR in League One just to make a modicum of difference Ah no, with respect it works the other way The reason why our referees are as they are is that the best of Champs went up to be Prem or VAR officials, and League one went to Champs, League One refs now, if VAR did not exist, would be in Non-league, there is not enough to go round.

That’s an interesting perspective and one I hadn’t considered i.e. the voracious appetite of the whole VAR introduction into the higher leagues. Thank you, it explains why quite a few of the officials( linsmem included) have looked out of their depth

I see it's now reported that Forest didn't ask for Attwell to be switched from VAR duties and didn't say beforehand that they had any issue with him.
They've really made a mess of this. Such a childish response does them no favours at all and seems particularly stupid just days before the decision on their points deduction appeal is due to be announced. The two aren't connected, of course, but even so. If the appeal fails will Forest's social media team have another tantrum or have they been sent to the naughty step?
I like Ashley Young's response - posted a picture of him playing "Cry Me A River" on his Twitter account.

Official Statement:
Nottingham Forest has today submitted a formal request to the PGMOL to release into the public domain the audio recordings between officials during yesterday’s match against Everton at Goodison Park.
The club has requested this be shared for three key match incidents - Ashley Young’s challenge on Giovanni Reyna (24th minute), Ashley Young’s handball (44th minute) and Ashley Young’s challenge on Callum Hudson-Odoi (56th minute).
We firmly advocate for the broader football community and supporters to have access to the audio and transcript for full transparency, ensuring the integrity of our sport is upheld
The original gripe appears not to be an 'official statement'. Just a tweet from their media team. I can't see anything official apart from the above

The problem with the Luton fan thing is that it's simply not beyond reproach.
Save everyone the drama.
Especially as he's got previous.
Forest's statement is bang out of order though. Isn't their owner a bit of a feisty nutter?

Isn't their owner a bit of a feisty nutter? Ridiculous way to deal with it. Haven't they got clattenburg employed too for some odd reason? They've been a bit of a basket case since they came up really. Only kept out of relegation places by 3 poor teams coming up last season who look to be going straight back down.

The VAR adjudicator is always an established Premiership ref, so there is no difference to recruitment there. Otherwise it has always been the case that promotion through the leagues occurs so that does not explain the poor standard now compared with previous.

Yeah. But one would expect a statement to be released on their website which is then linked to in the socials. The tweet doesn't appear to have been backed up anywhere else? Maybe an employee over-stepping the mark. Remember when our social media team released that we had signed someone then they didn't join us? 🤣 anyone recall the details on that one? It was kinda funny

I don’t have a problem with VAR, but I do have a problem with the people using it! Why don’t we just get 3 people looking at the incident, when it isn’t an offside call, and they should be a referee, an ex-professional player, and a retired coach. They could confer and the majority decision would then decide whether the match referee needs to review the incident or not.

What about introducing an appeals procedure? We could suspend play for a couple of days, or perhaps weeks while it goes through a judicial process.....and then of course that eventual decision could also be appealed. VAR is an abomination.

VAR is here because plenty of people in the game demanded it (managers, pundits, fans), I'd be interested to know whether those who were championing it, regret doing so.
I've only ever been to one game where VAR was in place, that was the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool. Whilst it wasn't a particularly controversial game, there were times I did not know what was going on and whether VAR was being looked at. I'd hate to have that every game and not feeling you can celebrate a goal because of the uncertainty as to whether VAR will chalk the goal off.
It really is sucking the life out of football and unfortunately I don't see any way it will get better

No VAR would have meant that United would have deservedly been beaten and we'd have had a memorable end to a great comeback by Coventry. The Chesterfield v Middlesborough F.A. Cup Semi Final came into my thoughts. Somehow the little Club never gets the rub of the green - in Chesterfield's case because of Elleray's mistake.
