Just my own personal observations from today and I thought I'd create a thread as to what I observed (and others and Steve Cross on the Radio) as to the effect of having O'Brien and Flanagan in the team today. Also the introduction of Price and Bennett as well as late cameos.
It seems interesting that perhaps a lot of the problems have been coming out wide, and whilst I don't doubt the effort or desire of any of the Town Players there does seem some interesting things.
Down the right flank I've often noticed Bloxham switch off completely defensively and leave Feeney with two opposition players to deal with, to be fair to Feeney he always tries to get a block in when a cross comes in. Today 20 minutes Flanagan seem to have noticed this as well and whilst Flanagan didn't have the perfect game either his rollockings to Bloxham may have helped him wake up.
The left flank is similar (I expect to get some flack about this observation) and whilst Benning is the flavour of the month, defensively he's very sound as soon as he crosses the half way he hesitates on the ball and slows down play. He takes an age to take a throw in, by which time the opposition have regrouped. This was also something that O'Brien may have picked up on as well today.
Who would have thought that Aidan O'Brien could be Town's salvation this season but to me he seems very intelligent, always trying to direct attacking play.
Its no wonder that Flanagan and O'Brien have played International football, despite their English births, some may say that are fortunate to have Irish ancestry, but today that seems to be make a big difference.
Jack Price looked a different player as well, he seemed positively happy to be there and whilst he's not the biggest he certainly seemed to read the game well and be a step ahead.
Elliott Bennett also does a lot of good work from the side lines as well, he's been very encouraging whilst warming up to the issues on the flanks that I've noted above.
When you combined the disjointed partnerships on the wings with a misfiring midfield its no wonder Town are where they are in the League.
