We have now won 5 Away league games this season, Fleetwood, Wycombe, Northampton, Reading and Vale. We have completed the double over 4 of those sides by also beating them at home. Wouldn’t it be nice to complete the set when Wycombe visit us in mid April?

Interesting that two two-thirds of our 12 wins so far have come against four teams - is that a record?

Interesting that two two-thirds of our 12 wins so far have come against four teams - is that a record? Think we had a poor season early 90s and did the double over 3 or 4 teams in a only a small number of wins. Will try and dig info out later.

Of our 41 points I had worked our that Fleetwood, Northampton, Port Vale, Reading and Derby had accounted for 28 of them.

Think we had a poor season early 90s and did the double over 3 or 4 teams in a only a small number of wins. Will try and dig info out later. Right. 1990/91 was the season. 5 doubles. We eventually won 14 games but that included 6 of the last 7 games to stay up in 18th place with 52 points (46 was enough to stay up that season). Asa Hartford was the boss at the start of the season but we only won 4 of the first 22 games before being dismissed and John Bond his replacement on 17th Jan. I dread to think where we were in the table but was very close to bottom place I'm sure. Dread to think what social media would have been like had it been around at the time.... Our wins came against:- Stoke A 3-1 29 Sept. Birmingham H 4-1 27 Oct Crewe H 1-0 9 Nov Bradford A 4-2 22 Dec John Bond appointed 17 Jan Crewe A 2-1 22 Feb Stoke H 2-0 16 Mar Orient H 3-0 19 Mar Bradford H 1-0 2 Apr Chester H 2-0 20 Apr Reading A 2-1 23 Apr Swansea A 1-0 27 Apr Birmingham A 1-0 4 May Reading H 5-1 7 May Bournemouth H 3-1 11 May You will note that doubles were achieved against Stoke, Birmingham, Crewe, Reading, Bradford. 5 doubles, 10 games won out of a total of just 14. John Bond was looked upon as doing a decent job, didnt last though as we were relegated at the end of the next season. To think regular players in that team included Tommy Lynch, Mark Blake, Carl Griffiths, Mickey Brown, Kevin Summerfield, Wayne Clarke and Mark Taylor. 7 who were also regulars in the 93/94 wonder team.

Would be nice (though unlikely) to see us playing Stoke and Birmingham again next season. It is always a mystery why some players make good managers and some do not - Hartford had a very good playing career but was definitely among our worst-ever managers.
