It looks like someone at the TV licence (outsourced to Crapita) is selling data.
My licence is due this month and I have had 5 emails warning that my payment hasn't gone through and requesting bank and/or credit card details.
They aren't too difficult to spot, one was addressed to Dear Mr T.V. Licence and another to Dear TV licence club member.

the real ones are just as incompetent, I estimate over 2-3000 letters per year are sent to somewhere I deliver 49x4 apartments , and yet the landlord pays for the tv licence for the lot, and has given up informing them, the letters just keep coming

It happened to me a couple of months ago. It looked an authentic e-mail on the face of it, but further checking confirmed it was in fact fraudulent.
Someone is obviously selling data to scammers.

I had one yesterday, I made of point of filling out the form with fake details, if everyone did that it would hamper them enormously

Even those with only the most basic of IT know-how know not to open links from potential spam emails.
Block, trash, done.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that, some of these things are clever and if you receive a message that looks genuine during the month the licence is due it’s not surprising that people can be fooled.

They certainly can, however the suggestion you open a link to fill in a form with bogus information is frankly dangerous. Malware, viruses, spyware, phishing, gwole, could be anything!

Block trash done ? Never mind the parcel you were expecting 🤩

A brave while ago while living in university halls, the offical TV licensing folks put letters on all our doors saying we all need to pay to watch tv. They even put them on the communal toilet doors 🤷♂️ they don't have a clue who lives where.
BBC looks like it's dying anyway. It can't change fast enough with the internet streaming services taking over for a fraction of the license fee price. Barely watch a thing on BBC these days 🤷♂️ they seem obsessed about 'fact-checking' their own shows and being politically correct rather than listening to their dwindling viewers.
