A dead lion and a swarm of bees (that could be mistaken for flies) isn't exactly an enticing image. I'm surprised it's lasted that long - imagine trying to sell that on Dragons' Den.
It does take me back to my syrup-loving childhood - and they're keeping the old branding on the tins - but I hardly touch the stuff any more.

Not into these rebrands on traditional items!

Not into these rebrands on traditional items! Sleeping isn't biblical enough - it has to be dead! BBC - 'According to the company's website, Lyle had strong religious views, which is why the logo depicts the story of Samson from the Old Testament, in which Samson killed an attacking lion, and later noticed a swarm of bees had formed a comb of honey in the carcass. He later turned this into a riddle: "Out of the eater came forth meat and out of the strong came forth sweetness." The second half of the quote was used on the original branding of Lyle's Golden Syrup.'Funny how that phrase "out of the strong came forth sweetness" has stuck in my head since childhood, though how it attaches to the production of syrup I don't know!

I audited them a number of years ago and mentioned it at the time. They said they were looking at it - and THAT'S what they went with? 😳

I had written out a post criticising but then I the time to read carefully. It's so great that they're keeping the old logo - we don't value history and our own culture nearly enough as a nation and 'modernise' far too eagerly so any bucking this trend has to be seen as a huge plus.
Well done lads and ladies 👍

Someone's made a bit of money doing barely anything. Just like Clippy!

Also note that the tin is still a good old 1 lb (even though they have to put 454 g so that younger folk know how much they are buying!).
I think it's great that the design has lasted so long.
And as for serving suggestions.... perfect on porridge.

And as for serving suggestions.... perfect on porridge. Golden syrup's alright but really, it has to be maple syrup - I'll accept no quibbling.

I think their logo's sweet, very, very, sweet.
I wouldn't buy a tin with the pathetic clip art effort for toffee.
