Preston Boats would make perfect sense, providing a train station and huge park & ride car park was part of the plans. Would also stop so much traffic coming into town if you could hop on a train for a couple of ££ return and avoid the queues. Northern relief road is over 20 years in the making so far and counting, so while Preston Boats might be workable, not sure we can see it near term, infrastructure of that size not speedily pushed through in shropshire. You have also mentioned mistakes in the new stadium construction, without wanting to rake things up - are there any that could be rectified now?

And just out of interest, does anyone recall any other locations around Shrewsbury that were considered for the new stadium? Not another location but do remember seeing some plans for the regeneration of the Meadow. The Station End would become all seater with exec boxes at the back, modelled on the Torquay stand. The Riverside would remain terracing and be extended over the river, whilst the Wakeman End would become for away fans but with access through Abbey Gardens. Would have been nice If done right it certainly would have been. Shrewsbury is a nice looking place as it is but especially that location next to the river, it would have been something. However, I doubt we could have afforded it or? As I bet that would have cost something and then some and considering we used the money from the sale of that ground to fund the new place...be interesting to know how they thought they could have funded that.

I seem to remember that the proposed station end stand would have dwarfed the rest of the ground; it looked good though.

A few have been rectified by supporters, most which over a decade to even be recognised. I'm sure you don't want to be reminded we didn't even have toilet seats for the first decade at the ground 😂. Minor to me & you, but not to the ladies and girls we proclaimed to care about.

That we didn't make the South Stand an "end" when we first moved I still don't get. Granted its getting there now but from the off we should have made it cheaper behind the goal and tried to get the more vocal support in the one place where they could make some noise. I know it might well be on the fans to sort out but charging the same amount wherever you sat meant we saw a split with the South Stand and Block 19 which I don't think did anyone any favours. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but looks a chance missed. Which sums the move up a tad considering how things have gone since...

Charging the same amount behing the goal or down the side was ridiculous. As was not having a section of standing. Though I guess we werent alone, moving to a new ground seemed like a way to grab more money off fans by many clubs.

I thikn this may have wandered a bit as a thread - the question I asked (foolishly I know) was: "are there any that could be rectified now?"and the answer seems to be no as all the problems are historic, which is great, :-)

Think you might be getting mixed up with the problems with grants for new builds. the ground was partly funded by someone who only funded all seater stadia, terracing costs far more to build than seating, and lets not forget the s**t we would have got from the negative fans who would have used the 'championship within 10 years' to point out how much ambition we must have of making then championship with terracing being built

If there's nothing needed then fantastic 👍 Might end up being a couple of easy things. I think a lot is historic to be honest!

I’d agree, if we ever decided to move now, Preston Boats would be the logical place as it ties in with the long term town plan for a railway hub and with the NWRR it sort of makes sense. Saying that a lot depends on the next GE and whether labour (if they get in) row back on these big infrastructure projects. Makes sense if a deal was ever considered as the land around ORoad is now prime development land. Couple that with the sports village location and training ground and again it makes sense. That said I don’t know what development costs are now and how that would tie in with value of the current land

I see that Barnet are moving stadiums again and heading back to Barnet, just 120 yards from where Underhill once was. They have played the last 10 years at the Hive stadium in Harrow so this move has gone down very well with Barnet fans.

I didn't realize that they were in Harrow and not in Barnet so makes sense and no wonder the fans are happy. I gather they mean to keep the Hive? It looks a very tidy setup from what I have seen of it on the box but it does look more of a training facility than a stadium. Maybe they'll have one of the local Premier League sides looking to taking it over.

Maybe that might be on the cards again? Who knows. I know that a lot of national football teams use it as their training base whenever they’re due to play England at Wembley too.

Would have been nice These were the so called '1996 plans'. I have an image of the Riverside Stand that we used in 'A Large Scotch'. The ground would have been great. But there were two problems. Even with a riverside walkway, there was still only one entrance/ exit via the 'Narrows' (this was even with a potential walkway exit/ entrance through Abbey Gardens'). And two, the funding for the revamp. In the end moving away from Gay Meadow was the only option, and hence where we are today. The Preston Boats one is interesting too, as this was the preferred site in the late 80's/ early 90's. Funding would have come from the sale of Gay Meadow. Although the transport links would have been excellent (remember the bypass hadn't been built then though) I do think it would have been too far out of town. Other side of the river too. I don't know how I would feel if we did move again. As someone heavily involved in the campaign for the New Meadow, I always thought that Oteley Road would be our 'forever home'. The march of housing development down Oteley Road, and now Stadium Point is starting to hem us in a bit. But unless it is truly for finance purposes, I would have to really think about supporting such a move.
