Starmer is a bit of a knob. Blair on the other hand is a war criminal, but every one of the MPs that voted for the invasion of Iraq is culpable.

Guess who's back, back again... ‘Gaza George’ Galloway becomes Rochdale by-election frontrunnerHaving read this you really do feel for the people of Rochdale, they deserve better. What a mess. Just to add that Kate Osamor lost the whip some time back for her comments regarding Gaza and Graham Jones, a former MP and candidate for Hyndburn has also been suspended.

Rochdale was part of my patch for a number of years when I worked in the NHS so I do have some affinity for the town and the people. It is certainly a right mess and it will be interesting to see how the voters react or even vote with their feet and stay away on ballot day. Fortunately, it is only a by election (although I'm not being demeaning when I say that) and the voters will have a second opportunity this year when the general election is called.

The people of Rochdale deserve something better, than Rochdale.
In addition to a disenfranchised candidate, they have Galloway and Simon Danczuk, the former Labour MP who was suspended from the party for sending explicit messages to a 17-year-old girl, standing in the Rochdale byelection for the Reform party.

Meow!! Galloway romps home then. What to make of all this... Well looking to his victory speech and the interviews I have seen the focus was very much on Gaza, Labour and Starmer. Granted he might give Sunak a headache or two regarding calls for a ceasefire but he seems determined to make things uncomfortable for Starmer. But whether he can do so, I'm not so sure. Whilst Galloway mentioned his party is to stand in other constituencies come the general election I think the party starts and ends with Galloway and he can't be in two places at once. I think Starmer can ride this one out. You suspect Galloway isn't only going to be around in the Commons for too long. He did mention Rochdale once or twice, mind. Good to hear him make reference to Labour turning a blind eye to the grooming gangs, that can't be repeated enough at the moment considering they are now doing the exact same thing when it comes to the threat posed by Islamists (and those who support them). We know Labour and the left can be paralyzed with identity politics, good to see it called out. But all in all, I'm not sure this is a good advertisement for the state of UK politics at the moment. There are discussions as to whether he will even stand in Rochdale come the election or whether he might try someplace else (I gather on the same ticket but somewhere with a larger Muslim community). I do wonder what the people of Rochdale of thinking this morning, not those who got their man of course but the majority who have seen their MP voted in because of conflict between Israelis and Palestinians rather than the needs of people of Rochdale. Thankfully they might not have to wait so long to pick again.

Over 6 out of 10 Rochdale voters stayed at home, I don't blame them.

While I don’t blame voters for not going out in this instance, it does illustrate what you can end up with if you don’t bother.

As other people have mentioned the General Election will have a far higher turnout so Galloway and this band of pro Palestinian fanatics will have no chance of being elected. They may however in a few seat with large Muslim populations split the "left" vote (not that Stammer is advocating socialist policies) which could influence who wins with our crazy and out dated First Past the Post electoral system. Of course Gaza may not be headline news in 6 Months
