I didn’t realise until today they the scarf Pike wears in Dads Army is actually an Aston Villa one, as Ian Lavender was originally from Birmingham. Had always assumed it was West Ham with the show set in the south of England
Such a shame all the original cast are now gone, but Ian made a great job of relating the memories of the cast over recent years. It would have been easy to get upset at constantly being asked about a role he had 40 years ago but he up the role of last member of the team with great heart and affection RIP stupid boy

Surely the best British sitcom ever. Such strong, identifiable characters, with so many good catch phrases. Quintessentially English humour at its best. RIP.

Loved Dad's Army - one of those programmes that appear to be timeless. Ian Lavender made an appearance in the film remake a few years back - got a promotion to Brigadier!! Didn't realise he was in Eastenders for quite a few years also!!

I like the story about Ian Lavender appearing on Celebrity Mastermind, when John Humphries asked for his name Rick Wakeman shouted, “don’t tell him Pike”.
Much of the success of Dad’s Army is due to perfect casting. Arthur Lowe is outstanding and for the best comic drunk see him as Peter O’Toole’s butler in the film ‘The Ruling Class’. The film isn’t very good but Lowe is hilarious.
