www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2024/february/9394-reunion/My second season and the one I always think of as ‘my’ season. Sadly I know I won’t be able to make it so I am making a request to those who have influence to ask if it can be videod so that those of us who can’t be there could see it not necessarily live but at some stage. Thanks.

Indeed from the low of Preston to the highs of Rochdale and Lincoln. It was just great.

One of the only seasons ever (ok the second half of it anyway) when you just knew that Town would get a favourable result, even if they went behind. The belief that that team had in themselves was phenominal. The mental of the celebration of the Davy Walton late goal that finally put us top at Rochdale you just knew that we were going to finish as Champions with a few games to spare.
And the celebrations memory at Scunny will never fade.

That night in Rochdale will live forever in my memory.
There was a symmetry about Walton scoring the winner because the previous season their centre back had done the same to us.
I may be misremembering but I think it poured with rain both nights.

This looks a really good idea, well done to the club for putting this on.
That was the season I fell in love with the club, prior to that I'd been going sporadically with my dad but this season, I became a regular.
The scenes from the last few games will obviously live with me forever but the momentum we had from that long unbeaten run (17 games?) was brilliant, particularly after such a poor start. I think there was a period where we had a run of games against promotion rivals at home and won them all (Preston, Wycombe and Chester?), great times.

I like a football coincidence and remembered that the Rochdale centre back who scored against us in their 1993 win was Alan Reeves who later played for Wimbledon in the Premier League.
I had thought that he and our Mark Williams had been the Wombles centre backs in the early 2000s but sadly for my love of coincidences Reeves had left before Williams joined.
But remembering Mark Williams reminded me of another theme, that of non league gems and the fact that ‘Bomber’ signed from Newtown.

From memory we had a settled team but had one problem area, no left winger. I think most of our loans were left wingers that season (Louis Donowa, Brian Croft, Mark Rutherford and Ray Woods?)

Rutherford was about 5 years later. Looks like we had him on loan that season and then had him again 5 years later en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rutherford_(footballer)

Was a great season. To win promotion was one thing, the way we went about it was quite another. Didn't get to see as many games as I would have liked as I was studying in Hull but that was very handy for the away day in Scunny. Deano. Eagle!!! Eagle!!, Bomber. Tommy Lynch. Was it Patterson with that goal at Scunny? Always remember Chris Withe turning to the crowd and giving us all a massive grin as he sprinted down the wing in one game. And of course, Sir Micky Brown. Great memories. Great initiative from the club, hope its a success.

You’re right, I should do my research before posting! For some reason the game at Bury where we were 0-2 down at half time and won 3-2 with Rutherford and Brown destroying the Bury defence had lodged in my mind as being in a later season.

They really were a great bunch.

Very classy, one of those players who made the game look easy.

We should be beating the likes of Preston North End, Wycombe, Crewe and Chester.

Does anyone know of any book written about this season? I've not come across one.
I actually started making some notes towards writing one at the start of lockdown, but didnt get too far into it before I was back working as normal.
Would anyone be interested if I picked it up and finished it and got it published? Guess it wouldnt be available till probably the autumn though.

I know I was there for every home match but at my age I can't remember any individual games, just the great players. I do however remember Dan Udohs goal yesterday.

The night match v Blackburn was something to remember as well. Very nearly didnt happen. We were just a toe away from winning up at their place. Ball across their 6 yard box just begging for Summerfield or Spink (cant remember which now) to get on the end of it, and they were very close to it. Was only a couple of minutes from full time. Dont forget this was the Blackburn team that went on to win the Premier League the following season. And we them all the way to extra time in the replay before they saw us off. I think those games gave the team the belief they needed after their awful start to the season.
