when I first started watching the town late 70s early 80s , I can remember some of the songs
you are my Shrewsbury my only shrewsbury you make me happy, when skies are grey .....
come on you blues come on you blues come on you blues
going down the wile cop ....
there was always the
one nil one nil one nil. or whatever score we led by. ( when did this chant die in footy) ?
away games I used to love the
Shrewsbury boys we are here, whoaho whoaho as for the rest of the song, only ever witnessed Ade Plimmer carry out both claims ;-)
any more I've missed ? there must be many
we wont mention the racist ones or those based around fighting
I also remember the whistles, deep in injury time, (only when we were winning ) they seemed deafening , something else that died out )
was this better times or not ? ( taking into consideration the awful songs I didn't mention )

Was there a song with “zigger zagger” in it? (1970s) Some songs were adapted for particular players, such as Jimmy Mac. (McLaughlin)

A real shame the 1-0 (or whatever the score was) died out as that really wound up the opposite supporters, especially away from home! Agree with the whistles too, seemed like forever some weeks whistling to get us to victory. I also remember this being louder away from home!

It actually really annoys me that " come on you blues" hasn't been used in a fair few years now. Always the best option at corners etc when we're attacking the south stand.

Showing my age now....
Davey, Davey Roberts, Davey Roberts on the wing.
Two black crows upon a tree.
He's only a poor little cockney.
Bury, Bury bas***ds.
It's a goal, it's a goal, it's a goal, goal, goal (every time Paul Maguire was about to take a corner).
Happy days!

Come on you blues was always chanted as we a corner, something we could revive?

Come on you blues was always chanted as we a corner, something we could revive? That was when we played in Blue . Shouldn’t it be “ come on you blue and ambers “. We could always revert back to blue but then this board would then become the Blue Message Board . What a todo .

You may have missed it, but we wear all blue this season… and it looks crap, so glad we’re going back to blue and amber next season Injury time whistles still happen, think Derby at home this season, very loud, problem is we’re hardly ever winning to notice

Blue and white, blue and amber, so always blue 👍

Maybe if Hurst doesn't see out his contract we'll start singing "Are we Watford in disguise?" ...

Noticed that ‘build a bonfire’ has lost the impetuous given we don’t seem to play local rivals that often nowadays.
Thought it might come back for Wrectum game.

Zico! Zico! Zico! & Eagle! Eagle! Eagle!
Kids these days will never know the amount of time and effort that went into creating these 2 classics.

If you go on to Youtube Music and select Shrewsbury Town Songs (vid gaboo24) you will hear a very old song by a band extolling the team winning the 'first division' and 'taking the Welsh Cup with them'.
Don't know who made it, or when, but it's an interesting listen.

Can see the lads playing in that kit at the old ground. Magic. Even better blue shirts with white shorts - non of this amber s**te .😉🤪

So I would say that OVERALL the atmosphere is probably better now as South stand does a great job and the wakeman was always deathly silent on whole.
BUT and it is a BIG but for all the overall good of block 10 the occasional SALOP SALOP en masse or COYB would definitely raise the roof alot more than any taylor Perry chant etc. But of course this would mean no drumming so doubt it would catch on unfortunately.
Back on topic knees up mother brown was always the most fun on the Riverside for obvious reasons. Nothing competes with tumbling down a steep terrace after a goal either.
Does anyone else remember 'all we are singing is give us a goal' which I'm sure was changed to Geddis a goal whilst dave Geddis was up front.
And finally does anyone remember Cheltenham away in about 2004 or something when for some bizarre reason the second half consisted of nothing but really old chants. That was actually awesome.

So I would say that OVERALL the atmosphere is probably better now as South stand does a great job and the wakeman was always deathly silent on whole. Actually agree with this. I preferred the Gay Meadow and would be back there in a shot if I could but there's a myth created about the atmosphere. For the odd big game it could be good but for large parts the atmosphere consisted of a small group in the centre of the Riverside and once B&A was created that group was moaned at online for some of the songs sung. When the 'new' ground is quiet its deathly quiet but you have noise from both West & Stands on a fairly regular basis, that rarely happened at the old ground.

"you're going home on an organised football coach"
"Wemberrrley,Wemberrrley, it's a great big place in London and they call it Wembley"
Both Riverside classics of the 1970s.
