After reading a diverse set of opinions and views on the current situation inside the football club, I thought it might be interesting to start a thread where we could actually discuss expectations and standards for this football club from board members.
In nearly the last decade in league one Shrewsbury have predominantly been a low scoring, defensive outfit without a tremendous amount of attacking intent. Apart from the Hurst wonder season Mellon, Ricketts, Cotterill and now Taylor have all established a flat back 5 at one stage in order to ensure we are hard to beat but that drains away attacking intent. It seems to have resulted in bottom half finishes, enough to avoid the drop generally but not enough to do anything of note in the division.
So what are your expectations of Shrewsbury town as a football club? What is a good league position for us to be in? What do you expect to see from a Shrewsbury team?

Just a club and team who give the fan base a bit of hope would be a start. All we’ve had this season is Bob Hope and no hope.
To actually look forward to a Saturday, rather than it be a chore sitting through a performance after performance of diabolical hoof ball.
To have a bit of entertainment each game rather than once a month at most. By that I mean don’t be the worst scorers in the 92 over a 5 year period
To try and play a little bit of football rather than aimless hoof ball. What we are serving up this season is just embarrassing, massively frustrating and downright boring
Nobody is asking for us to be a consistent play off outfit in league one. But for £24 a pop of £370 for a season, thing simply have to be better than this. It’s not too much to expect more than 17 goals in 27 games. It’s not too much to expect a bit of passion, energy, drive.

( and that includes the hurst play off season , we did amazingly well to stay in league 1 that season ) congrats

Expectations: Generally struggling, losing to teams like Stevenage, but giving some great moments in big matches and surprising us. A transfer window that actually improves us without the duds. Referees who know what they are doing. A fanbase that encourages the team.
Standards: Playing with passion. Always playing for the manager. Passion and politeness from everyone employed by the club. A fanbase that supports whoever is the current manager and doesn't pick on individual players.

I probably wouldn't use the terms expectations and standards as both of them are quite low. It's more a wishlist
Firstly, I'd like a coherent football style/identity. If that's going to be long ball football then so be it, but at least be effective at it. I can't honestly tell you what style Matt Taylor wants us to play
Secondly, I'd like to 'have a go', I don't mean come out all guns blazing but I don't want to spend £370 watching us sit back and let the opposition have a training session with the ball, particularly against the 'bigger' sides. Yes some sides are better than others but these are all third tier sides, there is nothing to be afraid of.
Thirdly, I'd like a player that can offer some excitement, something a little bit different, something to get fans off their seats. I know at this level he is not going to be the finished article but just something to wake us up
Finally, off the field, there's probably a lot I could ask for but trying not to go into another rant, I'd just ask for transparency. Actually understanding the position of the club today and what the board's aims are in the coming years

Expectations at the end of last season were relatively high. I accept for whatever reason SC had to go but there was a glorious opportunity to build on the squad he left behind with an experienced successor and there would have been eminently suitable applicants in plenty.
Generally though I would settle for entertainment and if that led to a chance of promotion to the Championship so be it. Other "small" clubs have achieved this in the last few years

Simples for me. A sound financial well run club with a manager and players who are proud of the club they are playing for. Example;11 Dave Edwards and A Graham Turner to manage them .

For me, I want to stop the short term 'ness', which I think RW has semi tried to do, but has been ill-advised and brought the wrong people in to do it. The CEO seems a decent appointment and a good age, the rest can go for me.
I'd also like a younger owner, the club to grow a better connection with the fans and the club to be more 2024 in everything they do.
On the pitch is on the pitch, whilst i'd like to return to a more attacking style of play, the issue of ownership and direction of the club is far more pressing and needs resolving before next season.

A manager or coach with an attacking mindset. Who was the last genuinely quick player we had, or even a tricky winger! Whalley was good but wouldn’t call him quick. Those players get the crowd off their feet even though it doesn’t always come off.

In the summer as the mess was unravelling I said my expectations had plummeted to such an extent that I’d be happy merely with staying up.
But of course, should we finish one or two points off the relegation zone, with less than 30 goals there will be absolutely nothing to be happy about.
I just want to see the club show a little ambition, and that doesn’t mean going out and spending a fortune on signings, just means having a bit of pride in ourselves , trying to build towards progress, and not defending the indefensible.

I would love to see players coming through from the academy and really establishing themselves in the starting eleven.

With the exception of the Hurst season, we have been treading water and too many of us have grown resigned to mediocre, sub-standard performances as the norm.
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen so-called smaller teams outplay us, look more comfortable in possession and have a better pattern to their play.
Such are the low expectations that some have even started talking about "free hit" games in League One or parroting "bad day at the office" cliches after yet another woeful performance when the issues run a lot deeper than that. The goals for and goal difference tallies tell their own story.
I don't want to see us surrender before a ball is even kicked through overly negative tactics, formations and signings. (Why have we signed six centre backs, for Pete's sake?). What I do want to see is a lot more intent to throw off the defensive stratifjacket and at least attempt to play attractive football.

We need a reserve team again, why did we stop? I agree, not an easy task but if we could develop our own and ultimately sell them on for a profit then that would be a real bonus financially and meanwhile we would see the best of our own home grown talent in a Town shirt. I was disappointed that we didn't see more of Travis Hearns in a Town shirt but I understand the offer from Newcastle was just too good to turn down. Could also see us being less dependent on the loan market; let's develop our own players not those of other clubs, who are often here today, gone tomorrow.

Id like to expect:
Play off push once in a while. Good honest football with some exciting players, talented too. League one with 12th as a minimum. Experienced management with a clear idea of how to play
My standards are: Not a relegation battle every year. Decent attempts at football, with some attempts at even exciting football, local young players with the usual journeymen to round us out. Minimum of 16th and not looking over the shoulder. Semi decent management who are trying to improve us and have a basic idea and plan. Don't mind us being a project as long as we do something with that.
A board of more than 3 people.

On the pitch is on the pitch, whilst i'd like to return to a more attacking style of play, the issue of ownership and direction of the club is far more pressing and needs resolving before next season. I don't particularly have a problem with the DOF/Head Coach model. In many ways this should stop the 'short termness'. I agree that RW has brought in the wrong people. Personally, I like Matt Taylor, a decent guy that represents our club well when he talks to the media. But I don't see him improving players nor do I see a tactically astute coach that can affect change when things aren't working. I don't feel that we are anywhere near being a well drilled side that makes us diffulct to beat. His coaching staff, of which there is a whole football team, don't appear to be making a difference either. If we're talking about expectation and standards, Taylor has not been helped by his DOF who in my opinion has been pretty spineless in not giving Taylor any visible support and taking the heat off his coach. Given our injuries, many of which were loans (presumably brought in by Moore), as well as our poor scoring record, I'd have expected that he should at least give us some sort of update and what we're looking to do in January. He was quick to bask in the importance of his new position when he came in and followed up 3 months in with an interview in mid September. But when it's clear his coach needs some moral support, he's nowhere to be seen. He should support his coach and help him out. It's clear to me that Moore has made Taylor the fall guy and, as and when he is pushed aside, Moore will get a second bite at the cherry. In my view, Moore needs to significantly up his game and convince us that he's got what it takes. With that in mind and regarding ownership, I hope Moore isn't thinking about heading up a consortium to buy us when RW decides it's time.

Expectation: Progress.
Our average home attendance always puts us at around 15th in League one on average, you go back 10 years we were averaging in the lower 5000's, now we're up in the 6000's.
How do you grow that? Ambition, excitement. I've taken six different people with me to games this year (all football fans, not necessarily Shrews fans but open to conversion.) And I've not been able to convince one to come to another game. Why?
Because they've paid £24 to watch a boring game usually resulting in a loss. They can't believe that's the standard of League one is the usual answer I get.
For once I'd love to see an attacking side, football is about entertainment not playing every game hoping for a 1-0. Change the formation, change the philosophy, change the belief surrounding the whole club that we're lucky to be in League one.

As a club we should be capitalising on the huge number of houses going up all around the town. Particularly around the ground itself. Consistent League One football combined with a growing population should result in higher attendances. But I don’t think anything is done to attract new supporters as far as I’m aware. Then again, whats the point? They’ll be bored out of their minds for two hours watching us defend with our lives with 30% possession.

I think last season there was some leaflets delivered to the new houses which gave them some ticketing offers. No ideas on the uptake But on your last point, sadly it's right, the matchday experience is currently a depressing one generally. My cousin (a Stoke fan) was telling me his kids were part of a junior side who were at the game on Saturday. I can't remember what they did but he said they were treated well by the club and generally the kids enjoyed it........apart from the 90 minutes. As I've heard quite a few times in recent years, his question was along the lines of "how do you watch that every week?"
