Cotterill is likely in credit given 5 promotions and a 40% win record over 900 games, (that's quite some achievement particularly given that at a lot of clubs he's been there when they have been in administration. Interesting how he talks about selling players for profit and then reinvesting it, he's smart and a proper English style Manager. I wonder how much was got for Leahy and for someone like Ogbeta, I know Steve was pretty pleased with the later. Less than £100k for Leahy. Around £250k + £100k add ones for Ogbeta.

" despite regular financial meetings and warnings that spending is greatly exceeding income and budgets, it continues unabated."Does that not suggest he knew something, if there were repeat meetings and repeat warnings? How was it allowed to continue? I can understand the sympathy if he had no clue, but you can't have it all ways, it's one or the other: 1) RW knew, but did nothing - Makes me more angry 2) RW knew nothing - Full sympathy For me, it can't be number 2) based on the fact he chaired multiple financial meetings, and gave multiple warnings, surely? I would suggest that there is a template in place for every purchase a football manager makes on and off the field , sounds to me like cotterill was using Tottenhams template and not Shrewsburys I know he deceived the chairman with players wages, lots of hidden bonus payments in the small print etc he brokered the Umbro deal , it ranks alongside the uk gov deal in buying facemasks from Turkey ;-) and one thing I do know is the chairman is still beating himself up about bringing the guy in at all, he brought in a guy that was a personal friend, one 99% of the fans thought was great, and a guy he thought he could trust and thus take the back seat many had been calling for I have full sympathy for the chairman and only disgust from the guy who the p**s from day one and only ever thought about himself I've also heard rumours I cant really write on here Sounds like a case for Rip off Britain on BBC morining tv with Angela Rippon. They love a case of a lovable confused old person being conned by a young wide boy, and I'm sure could door step Cotterill at home and get the Chairman's his money back. Unfortunately once someone is targetted by scammers they are often subject to further scams once word gets around they are a soft touch. Which would kind of explain why that new Nigerian consortium with a lot of dimond money is poised to take over the club

I know I've said this many times, but he reminds me so much of Gary Peters, in terms of the type of manager he is, the type of football he plays and his personality. Get away from the matchday/training environment and he's a very likeable character, he's open, he's honest, he's entertaining, he's passionate, he's certainly not dull. I remember people who were at the player of the year awards saying they could listen to him talk for hours. However get him in a pressurised environment and/or you don't do things the way he likes, well he's a different beast and it's easy to see why some people don't like him
As for all the allegations against him, if they are true, at best it comes across as he's a complete control freak, at worst he has done things which are for his personal & financial gain. Either way, it doesn't show him in a good light. However you can't just blame him, there are are failings of the club and the people in charge. Let's take the allegation of him booking expensive hotels to gain the loyalty points to go on holiday, I've spoken with a few people about this and the reaction is the same. Why the hell would a football manager of a professional football club be booking hotels himself? Even if Cotterill was demanding to do it, everyone at the club should be saying that it's not right and it shouldn't be allowed. So yes by all means complain about Cotterill but you have to acknowledge that Roland is also responsible for what has happened.
My feeling is Cotterill still sees himself as a top end L1/bottom end Championship manager but no one else does. When his name is linked with a variety of clubs, the reaction of fans is generally negative because of the perception of the type of manager he is and the style of football. It would be interesting to see if his ego allowed him to go back to being lower than L1

That stinks.

When his name is linked with a variety of clubs, the reaction of fans is generally negative because of the perception of the type of manager he is and the style of football. It would be interesting to see if his ego allowed him to go back to being lower than L1 In terms of hotel bookings you would assume that like any business the club would have a procurement process for this service, which involves sourcing quotes, issuing a purchase order to the approved contractor and then making the payment. In the charity and public sector there are staged procurement routes and more detail is required the higher a contract cost. Generally for costs of over £1000 you would expect to get three written quotes, and a criteria on how the chosen contractor is chosen. The CEO would present these to the board who then confirm their chosen contractor. A purchase order then gets issued and when the supplier sends the invoice in that gets matched to the purchase order which allows the internal and external audit to track the payment. That way you have accountability through the system Obviously that also all gets paid through the business accounts as well to allow VAT to be claimed back on business related expenses. So allowing a individual employee to undertake the transaction makes no sense either as they aren’t VAT registered so expenditure is 20% higher than it needs to be As an established league one club you would assume that the costs of away games including stays away are reasonably similar year on year so can be budgeted for on an annual basis. In the odd event delegation for that had been given to the CEO and manager, the transactions should still be going through the books. So if costs suddenly went up from say £50k a year to £100k that should also be showing up in the treasury accounts and the board should be questioning what’s going on and putting work in to get the expenditure back in budget I understand from fans I’ve spoken to and posts on here that there appears to be strong evidence - let’s call them unusual business practices - were going on, and understand the bitterness towards those involved I just can’t get my head round how things got so bad in when experienced board members, auditors and club staff seemed to have thrown basic company practices out of the window during last season. What was once a tight ship seems to have turned into a leaky inflatable

anyway, back to cotterill
here's what we do know, directly from the chairman back in May ?
Despite regular financial meetings and warnings that spending is greatly exceeding income and budgets, it continues unabated.
and it sure did continue it had to stop
for all the cotterill fans, when do they think the best time would have been for it to have stopped ?
after 6 wins on the run maybe ? or when we went into admin ? end of the season after 4 points in 10 games ?
it was only ever going to be a lose lose scenario for the chairman, but one he had to make, explaining exactly why would certainly have cost the club more money, I hear rumours he was topping up the wages going back as far as January, probably £1m in 2023
after the decent run in January it was clear we were staying up, probably made up the chairmans mind when this was going to end, I also think SC always knew where this was going to end and suddenly changed his tune to the budget and buying the fans over , he was quite clever with that and it worked
putting 2+2 together I also think the club didn't realise half of what was going on until both BC & SC left
I once heard a staff member tell me new things are being discovered daily ( this after they had both left )
ok it seems we've just moved on, maybe we cant afford to chase things, and we have a new set up anyway, after all the EFL cant wait for us so sort things before the season restarts
lets just follow the light and see where it goes I say, hopefully it will end in league 1 still
as it stands we are probably paying 2 managers at the moment
if anyone thinks adding another manager to the pay roll is the answer then I disagree
in the meantime, Stevenage saturday, come on town, 3 points would be fantastic, a draw, frustrating, a defeat, someone will be back to say hes had enough again ;-)

Again regardless of the hyper rumours of supposed wrongdoing, the executive chairman of a business rools the roost and any mass failures underneath them shows their own poor management, inadequate frameworks and dreadful risk controls. If he wasn't the owner he would've been dismissed also.

I guess in the end there are any number of reasons why club official after club official has either a) been removed from their position or b) left their position with immediate effect by ‘mutual agreement’ over the last 20 years.
Ultimately, there is one common denominator, one person with absolute control, one person who has fallen asleep at the wheel on a regular basis, and one person who bears responsibility.
Apologists can spin what they want, or are told to say, but the facts are indisputable.

I see what people mean about comparisons with Peters but for some reason Cotterill reminds me of Brian Clough, probably an incredibly supportive man privately and away from the camera but very abrasive on camera. Also tactically pretty aware as well. Cotterill had his bad games like all but I'm drawn to the Cheltenham game a couple of years where down to ten men he masterminded a comeback to win 3-1.
Were his players really on so much? I remember him wanted to get Matt Millar signed and yet lost out because he wouldn't agree to what had been agreed previously under Ricketts.
I'm aware of some of the things that have gone on regarding money and the like, is there anywhere else (on the net) that its possible to read about them without causing any liable?

Firstly I am grateful for the tone of this debate which is much more respectful to opposing views While I have read what has been said about SC and his failures On the pitch ,he was not exciting but was an improvement on what had gone before (Hurst season excepted) there was a clear plan and he signed some good players; but if he was able to get away with what he was alleged to have got away with then the chairman must take a massive share of the blame for taking his eye of the ball .or to change to another metaphor for being asleep at the wheel
Having said that I do hope MT can turn things around for the clubs sake

Footballing Dinosaur. No one would touch him with a barge pole. Cotterill has forgotten more about football than Mickey Moore will ever know. Think that Cotterill had been out of football for about 2 years after leaving Birmingham City so there is an argument he was a manager not quite at the peak of his powers and past his best, but did seem at the time he was targeted by us as our first choice as manager by the Chairman. Similarly saw this online about Cadwells appointment at Town shrewsburyrotary.co.uk/news/brian-was-made-redundant-three-days-before-wedding/Seems like Cotterill, Wycherley went to great efforts to recruit him, and he seems to have had an excellent record in Scotland as a CEO so assume we did due diligence on him as well This is what seems so puzzling about the last 18 months is how three people with such a long history in football with a good reputation could have fell apart so quickly and seemingly with devastating financial consequences for the club. Going from £1.6 million in the bank to the Chairman having to give the club £1 million to survive is some major collapse Perhaps ITV will make a drama about it all one day and we’ll find out what happened
