www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/nov/13/james-cleverly-appointed-home-secretary-in-cabinet-reshuffleOver the summer Cleverly issued an unusual public appeal to Sunak to keep his job as foreign secretary in the next reshuffle. He told the Aspen Security Forum he would have to be dragged out of his job “with nail marks down the parquet flooring” Cleverly told the US conference: “If anyone in the UK is watching, listening, particularly you prime minister, I very much want to stay put … I very much want to stay put as foreign secretary. It’s a job that I love, I think it’s an important job.” Well, that's fallen on deaf ears hasn't it?

Cleverly has now been appointed to 2 of the 3 Great Offices of State.
This must put him as a front runner versus Braverman, Badenoch and Mordaunt in the race to replace Sunak.

Wondered where Sunak would find someone dim enough to take on the poison chalice.
A no threat to Sunak choice?

He has an interesting dilemma. There are advanced plans to house 1700 immigrants in his constituency rather than in hotels which he has opposed. Now he is Home Secretary...... ?
