Isn't it about time our leader did some leading? He floats ideas, scrap HS2, postpone banning petrol and diesel cars, etc., then runs for cover to see if his backbenchers will wear it.
Perhaps not what we should be doing for the planet, but firm leadership in delaying phasing out of gas boilers and petrol and diesel cars is a chance to win the next election, it would put Strarmer firmly in the minds as another Sadiq Khan or Drakeford.
Either way, dithering just looks weak and not PM material at all.

He's setting up the next GE to be about net zero. That is all.

Given the purpose of easing off the net zero stuff is to apparantly put money back in our pockets, did he say how much the average household stands to benefit from these announcements?
As Sean says, it’s all election posturing, and I’m sure it’ll be effective to some degree. They will have seen how the ULEZ debate won them Uxbridge.

If Sunak had any dignity or courage he'd call an election, but he doesn't and he hasn't.

Sunak is simply doing what the strategists have told him he needs to do to limit the electoral damage to the Conservative Party. They know that they cannot run on their record so they need to concentrate on getting their core vote out through exactly the things we've seen from Sunak and Braverman in the last week. I'm wondering what he will do over the timing of the election. I suspect he will go for another winter election - relying on poor weather and dark evenings reducing opposition parties' canvassing efforts.
