Aren't senior Tories a little late, just a few years, in raising objections?

They should also be concerned at plans to scrap oil heating systems in rural areas!

Wave power, Solar and the Tidal power we should have proceeded with (maybe even limitless fusion power in the future ), plus the strengthening of the National Grid to cope, really should make home boilers redundant as you can use "cheap" electric. If your boiler was oil you even get a bit of space for say, a greenhouse, where the oil tank is now. A key requirement is also to turn those draughty country properties into grade A insulated ones.

I keep getting letters about smart meters.
What do people think about smart meters generally?

I can't understand why anyone doesn't want one? They send meter readings for you every 30 mins, save you doing it and show you how much you're spending.
It's a nonsense that they'll cost you more etc, they're just an energy usage tracking device.

Some people are sceptical of the intrusion and feeding back information to companies that likely could sell that information on.

Your gas and electric usage which you provide manually without a smart meter? It doesn't have a microphone, nor does it even have internet capability. It has a satellite style SIM like AA/RAC drivers have to connect and transmit, but it can't listen, obtain or process any other information.

It has a satellite style SIM like AA/RAC drivers have to connect and transmit, but it can't listen, obtain or process any other information. 'Former Energy Secretary Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Craig Mackinlay, chairman of the Tories' backbench Net Zero Scrutiny Group want to amend the Government's Energy Bill. Mr Mackinlay said: 'Smart meters are clearly a back-door way of suppliers managing demand at peak times, charging more when they want and cutting off households at the drop of a hat. Sir Jacob said: 'Smart meters pose a real danger that they will be used to charge customers a premium price.' Should be ok then. Though some think that, like Smart motorways, they aren't so Smart. I'm in the camp that says whenever there's a change that companies are so keen to implement it's the consumer that's going to pay, that's always how it is.
